ABC executives have been listening to The Bachelor fans who want to see an LGBTQ+ spinoff. After the success of The Golden Bachelor, and confirmation that The Golden Bachelorette would make it to the small screen, there are more ideas in the mix. While nothing is concrete just yet, it does appear to be only a matter of time before a queer Bachelor graces our screens.
Will Bachelor Nation fans get an LGBTQ+ spinoff?
Speaking with Variety, The Bachelor Season 28 executive producer Jason Erlich looked to the future. “We hope to get the opportunity to do [an LGBTQ+ spinoff],” he said. “The most wonderful thing is that love is universal and so is the frustration of not finding love.”
Bennett Graebner, fellow executive producer, added that “a gay Bachelor” was one of the ideas frequently pitched, alongside “a Bachelor for older people.”
He said: “We checked one of those boxes. We’re talking about checking out the other box.”
Colton Underwood once starred as the lead in The Bachelor. While he is now out and proud as a gay man, his search for love on the show was with female contestants. So, a “gay Bachelor” spinoff would be the first of its kind.
Right now, producers are looking for a Golden Bachelorette lead. There was some talk that it could be award-winning actress and television host, Susan Lucci. That would be a major coup for the network, so they’ll likely have to deliver a big-money offer if they want to secure her for the role.
Of course, there are also plenty of women who didn’t make it down the aisle with Gerry Turner on The Golden Bachelor. Perhaps one of those ladies could get a call…
While we wait for more news, The Bachelor Season 28 continues Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
