Season 13 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has lately been swallowed up by Sutton Stracke’s esophagus and persistent nurse anesthetist, Annemarie Wiley. However, one of the more memorable non-esophageal moments was a cameo by actress and former diamond holder, Denise Richards.
“Denise F*cking Richards” showed up to Kyle Richards‘ THC dinner party in Episode 6 and gave absolute hot mess throughout the entire meal. She slurred words, gave “bitter beer face,” and tried (but failed) to come for Erika Jayne, who was understandably bewildered since Denise was speaking in cursive. On her way out, Denise put her jacket on upside-down. When Dorit Kemsley innocently pointed it out, DFR got defensive and belligerent.
In interviews after her appearance, Denise tried to explain the reasons behind her bizarre behavior. She was sick. She had taken cold medicine beforehand. Maybe she accidentally got some THC despite requesting a weed-free meal? But now, Denise is just brushing the whole thing off as something that went “sideways.” In the best way though, some would argue.
Denise Richards: “Look at her, she’s so f*cking sideways!”
In an interview on Melissa Gorga’s podcast, On Display, Denise recognized that her “comeback moment” took an unexpected turn during what’s been crowned “Dinner Party From Hell: Part 2.”
Denise said she’d considered skipping the dinner after falling ill. Despite testing negative for COVID three times, she “stupidly” decided to go. But, she made it clear to producers that she wouldn’t be partaking in the cannabis-infused menu items.
“I didn’t want to not go because I didn’t want [the Housewives] to say, ‘Oh, she didn’t show up,'” she explained. “But whatever … I made an asshole out of myself.”
Reflecting on the aftermath, Denise compared her situation to other Housewives who’ve faced embarrassing moments. She expressed confusion about why it got so much attention. Melissa reasoned that Denise’s “superstar” status and “bubbly personality” made her a captivating figure for Bravo fans.
Denise joked about the ensuing comments. “Oh, she’s here and look at her, she’s so f*cking sideways!”
She added that even her husband (Aaron Phypers, who’s kind of an oddball in his own right) questioned, “What the f*ck is wrong with you?” in response to her behavior.
Melissa also asked Denise to explain her confrontation with Erika and the motivation behind it. Denise clarified that she wasn’t “mad” at Erika and even began the evening by noting that Erika was much nicer without Lisa Rinna’s influence.
Denise chalked up her curiosity about why Erika came after her so strongly during her time on RHOBH as the reason she decided to confront her.
Whatever the catalyst for a delightfully deranged Denise, let’s thank her for a brief respite from Esopha-gate.
