Can you believe we’re already at The Real Housewives of Potomac Season 8, Episode 10? So far, Season 8 has largely focused on the major division in the group and the desperate attempts at bridging the gap. Last week, Karen managed to get the ladies together for an important cause, putting a spotlight on victims of sexual assault. This week, they tried to keep those positive vibes going. The episode primarily followed Candiace as she planned a Mother’s Day Brunch.
Most Housewives fans are probably still recovering from the messy Mother’s Day Brunch that we just witnessed on the current season of The Real Housewives of Miami. Although the Potomac ladies had their own fair share of guest list drama, we’re happy to report that no one stormed out of this Mother’s Day Brunch! Here’s what went down on RHOP Season 8, Episode 10: “Friendship Is a Mother.”
Grande Dames in training
Karen will always be the Grande Dame of Potomac. She’s proud to be on that pedestal, but this episode highlighted the fact that there are a couple of new Potomac Grande Dames in training. The first one is her daughter, Rayvin.
Episode 10 kicked off with Karen and Rayvin getting tattoos in honor of Karen’s late mother, Georgia. They both got a “G” inked on them, and it was super sweet to see the mother/daughter duo spending some quality time together. Plus, Karen’s reaction to getting that teeny tiny tattoo was hilarious.
Rayvin is a mini version of Karen, and you can tell that Karen has instilled all of her best qualities into her daughter. She also got volunteered to be a mentor for daughter Grace as she prepared to leave for college, and we saw the four of them go to breakfast together to help kickstart that relationship.
The other Potomac Grande Dame in training is newbie Nneka. Obviously, she has a long way to go to achieve Karen’s status. But, she’s taking baby steps. The cameras followed her as she went furniture shopping with her sister, Njideka. Nneka has a brand-new house in Potomac, and she needs to fill it up with the finest things.
Seeing Nneka hanging out with her sister gave us a lot more insight into who Nneka is. Most of her screen time so far has been dominated by conversations about Dr. Wendy’s mom and her alleged prayer shrines. When you take that part out of the equation, you see that we have a sophisticated and driven Housewife in our ranks. And right now, she’s the only person on this show who truly owns property in Potomac. That has to mean something.
Making a guest list and checking it twice
As Mother’s Day approached in Potomac, Candiace planned to host an elegant brunch to celebrate the beauty of motherhood. They planned to have a fragrance bar and a violinist. All of Potomac’s hottest moms scored an invite, except for Robyn and Gizelle.
Candiace said that she could find the grace in her heart to invite Ashley, who she referred to as a “raggedy bitch.” Gizelle and Robyn on the other hand, they won’t be allowed.
Eventually, Candiace had a change of heart and sent Robyn an invitation via text. Robyn declined. She said that she didn’t think it made sense for them to meet up in a group setting. They needed a private sitdown first.
In other guest list news, Dr. Wendy declined Candiace’s invitation to the Mother’s Day Brunch. She said that she had a book signing to commemorate the paperback release of her book. Candiace wasn’t buying it.
In her confessional, she theorized that Wendy chose not to come to the brunch because she didn’t want to be around Nneka. Hopefully, that’s not the case. Wendy can’t let Nneka push her out of the group, and Candiace can’t keep undermining her bestie in the confessional chair.
Dr. Wendy is ready for daytime TV
It’s been a minute since we heard about Dr. Wendy’s talk show dreams, and we finally got an update this week. She said she wanted to be the next big thing in daytime television by blending entertainment with hard news.
Earlier in the season, the cameras followed her as she met with a producer and scoped out studio space for the show. This week, we learned that the original producer was a major flop. She wanted to take 50% ownership of Dr. Wendy’s show. Anyone who’s seen an episode of Shark Tank knows that’s not a good deal, so Dr. Wendy gave that producer the boot.
This week, Wendy met up with two new producers who seemed ready to execute her vision. Of course, we know that this “daytime talk show” is actually just a YouTube channel, but kudos to Wendy for continuing to push forward. She’s taking baby steps, and that’s better than nothing.
A salute to the mothers
Regardless of how you feel about Candiace, you have to give her some props for the Mother’s Day Brunch. It delivered the level of elegance and opulence that we want to see on Real Housewives. No chickens were crapping in cages at this brunch. Instead, there was a harpist, a violinist, a fragrance bar, and Potomac’s best mamas.
Candiace said that “everyone can get behind the celebration of mothers,” and she was right. There was no room for drama. It was just a beautiful opportunity for the ladies of Potomac to spend time with their moms.
With mostly good vibes at the brunch, Charrisse took it upon herself to be the messy one. First, she went to Mia and told her about how she recently hung out with Mia’s ex-friend Jacqueline Blake. It seemed like weird timing considering the sensitive information we learned about Mia and Jacqueline at last week’s event.
Then, Charrisse shifted her shadiness towards Ashley. She started questioning Ashley about the status of her divorce. Why hasn’t she signed those papers yet? We’ve all been thinking the same thing, but sheesh, Charrisse. Can’t the shady questions wait until after the brunch?
You’d think Ashley might feel weird about talking about her divorce in front of everyone, but she admitted that she’s doing this divorce at her own pace. She replied, “I don’t want to be together romantically, but I’m not ready to sign the papers.”
A good, old fashioned sitdown
At the end of the episode, it seemed like we were finally getting ready to make some progress in resolving the issues between Candiace and Robyn. The two arrived at a café for a sitdown, which gave some good, classic Housewives energy. Unfortunately, it didn’t end well.
At their meetup, Candiace said she was confused about Robyn’s side of things and was ready to listen. Robyn laid out her argument pretty clearly. Her biggest qualm was Candiace’s theory that Robyn, Ashley, and Gizelle conspired against Chris to cover up the stories coming out about Juan. This drama should have been left back in Season 7. But, Candiace doubled down on her theory that the three ladies plotted against Chris.
Candiace replied, “I think you knew what Gizelle was planning to do”.
The issue with Candiace’s theory is that it all makes sense on Twitter when hundreds of people are engaging with her posts and telling her that she’s right. It just doesn’t hold any weight in real life when she’s face-to-face with Robyn with the cameras rolling.
You could see Candiace scrambling to make sense. Her eyes moved in a new direction with every word that came from her mouth. Ultimately, all she could say to defend her point was, “Well, that’s how I feel, and I’m allowed to feel that way.”
When Robyn realized that this conversation wasn’t going anywhere, she completely dismissed Candiace. Why sit there and argue with someone over a conspiracy theory?
Robyn said, “If you think that I have the propensity to plot and make lies about your husband, then you shouldn’t want to be friends with me ever again.”
With that, Candiace exited the cafe. Robyn stayed at the table to finish her smoked salmon sandwich. At this point, Candiace is 0-2 with the Green-Eyed Bandits.
The Real Housewives of Potomac continues on Bravo, Sunday nights at 8/7c.
