In the Season 11 Sneak Peek video for Vanderpump Rules, Tom Schwartz spilled a long-kept secret regarding Scheana Shay and himself. But ex-wife Katie Maloney didn’t react to the bombshell the way fans might have expected her to.
“I think you’ll be surprised how I react to all that,” Katie said at the Pump Rules Season 11 premiere party. “I mean, [Scheana] was at my birthday dinner last night, so we’ll leave it at that.”
Scheana quickly confirmed Katie’s statement, saying that she and the Something About Her co-owner are “in a really good place.” They celebrated her birthday the night before with a small group of friends.
Just not that big of a deal
In the sneak peek, Schwartz confessed to a shocked Lala Kent, “I’ve cheated. I was a makeout slut. I made out with Scheana in Vegas. No one even knows that.”
A stunned Lala could only respond with, “What?!”
Katie took the reveal as just further evidence that she was right to divorce her baby-man ex. “My feelings never mattered to you,” she told him.
For her part, Scheana admitted to People at the premiere, “[The kiss] didn’t cause a rift. I think it just caused some confusion, but I cleared that all up so it will be cleared up for the audience as well. But, it’s not what you think, I can say that.”
Still friendly, despite their divorce
Even though they were together a total of 12 years, a source reported that they had lacked “intimacy” in their relationship “for quite a while.” They behaved more like “roommates” than a married couple. Despite the divorce, they remain “a part of each other’s lives.” Could that be due to the fact that they both star on the same reality TV show and have to film together?
Even though still they care about each other, the source said Tom and Katie were looking for different things in their relationship. While Schwartz wanted “more flexibility with his life” (ie. he wanted to be free to fool around), Katie longed for the stability of a more “traditional marriage” (with a grownup, not a pubescent teenager).
In August 2022, Schwartz talked about where he and Katie stood in the months following their split. “We’re still hanging out,” he said, “not in an unhealthy, exorbitant way, but we give each other space, boundaries. We’re still buddies. We still check in on each other.”
“I’m happy that we’re still close,” he continued. “I think, relatively speaking, we’ve done a damn good job divorcing each other.”
