Guerdy Abraira is a bright light on Real Housewives of Miami. She’s a fair, honest, loyal, and multidimensional woman. Guerdy is also a self-made, highly decorated businesswoman, which is something that the Real Housewives franchise tends to lack. And yes, Larsa Pippen, your co-star, Dr. Nicole Martin, also has a real job, just like Guerdy, and also, stop telling others about your supposed friends’ personal matters.
We digress.
Moving back to the authentic, trilingual RHOM star that is Guerdy, we’ve found ourselves becoming more and more captivated by her presence over the years. It’s pretty safe to say that that she is one of our favorite Real Housewives that Bravo has ever cast. Her entire life story is a testament to bravery, courage, and determination. Truly, Guerdy Abraira is an inspiration, and we’ll tell you why now.
Guerdy Is a Multi-Talented Artist
From an early age, Guerdy began modeling. However, this career move wasn’t always a perfect fit for the outspoken, future reality television star. On her personal website, she explained why, including how her personality aided her in segueing into the business world.
“Growing up, I had been pushed to model. But after being fired a few times for speaking my mind on set, I knew that it wasn’t for me. Speaking my mind may not have been right for modeling, but my outspoken personality worked very well with an almost all-male catering team. You really had to hold your own!” she wrote.
Currently, Guerdy still models from time to time, and has appeared on magazine covers such as Lapalme and Retreat. She’s also been hired for multiple ads, and she was a background dancer in Adriana de Moura‘s music video for “FYAH.” We are counting this, because like Adriana or not, this song is a bop. Overall, Guerdy can act, dance, and model, making her an inspirational, multi-talented artist.
Guerdy Is a Self-Made Business Woman
For her first job post-college, Guerdy was offered a full-time position in the Alumni Relations Department at St. Thomas University in Miami. This was the same school that she had just graduated from. During her studies, Guerdy had actually interned in the alumni office, assisting with fundraising events. She nailed it, so her full time, accepted offer, involved her coordinating events for the university.
Eventually, Guerdy burned out. As she stated on her website, the part of her job that involved cold-calling for donations grew old. Therefore, she began looking for her next lateral move, which saw her becoming “a catering manager at a Radisson Hotel in Miami.” Now this job, she loved, but it was a connection that she made here that helped to open her next door, a catering manager for Fisher Island.
From here, this successful businesswoman became the “go-to” party planner, throwing events for stars like Oprah and Julia Roberts. While nailing this, she became friends with the owner of the island’s floral shop, who sadly was diagnosed with cancer, and needed to relocate for treatments. Guerdy bought the studio, and added on a second income-producing business; her own party planning and designing firm for her own clients.
Hard work pays off, as Guerdy’s self-made career path has proven. She’s so much more than a married-up Real Housewife. Guerdy Abraira is an inspiration for big-dreaming women everywhere.
Guerdy Is Philanthropic and an Advocate
We love those who give back to their communities, and on this, Guerdy shines. Having been born in Haiti, Guerdy’s family moved to Paris and then Miami. Therefore, she knows what it’s like to struggle, as fitting in to each locale took work, including acquiring new languages. Thankfully, Guerdy and hard work go hand-in-hand, and this, paired with her own life story, has seen her becoming a charitable advocate for others.
As the first black woman to own a business on Fisher Island, Guerdy not only gets it, she also gives it right back. In an interview with Bravo, she spoke out about wanting to create “an educational program for up-and-coming planners.” This is because Guerdy desires to “teach them the ways, like a Jedi.”
Guerdy also plans (and attends) multiple charitable events worldwide. In addition, she is now speaking out on the importance of breast exams and women’s healthcare, as she is newly cancer-free. We’ll touch on that next. Basically, Guerdy inspires us, and we applaud her charitable, philanthropic heart, both on Real Housewives and off.
Guerdy Embraces Life’s Challenges, Including Cancer
During RHOM Season 6, Guerdy’s breast cancer revelation took center stage. After learning of her diagnosis, Guerdy kept moving with her head held high, despite her heavy predicament. You see, when Guerdy shared her cancer diagnosis online, she stated “I will “guerdyfy” this cancer as I guerdyfy everything else in my life.” She then asked for “empowerment not pity” from the viewers, which made us cry, because her strength when her pathways were darkened was admirable.
Thankfully, Guerdy is now cancer-free! Online, Guerdy posted in all caps, “MY POWER IS ME… GUERDY 2.0.” Her hashtags included “#thankful,” “#warrior,” and “#survivor.” How could anyone not be inspired by a Real Housewives star that looks death in the eyes, yet keeps right on motivating everyone in their path?
Even Guerdy’s Marriage Is Inspirational
Over the years, there have been several horrific Real Housewives husbands, but Russell Abraira, Guerdy’s spouse, isn’t one. These two met as sophomores in high school, and they were wed in 2002. Unlike Guerdy, Russell has no social media presence, as Guerdy has stated on-air, that he is “humble” and private. When not showing up as a supportive, loving spouse at Guerdy’s side on RHOM, Russell works as a city of Miami firefighter.
Guerdy and Russell and their two sons are solid. In a world where marriages often fail, due to a lot of different factors, this couple has always come out stronger together, post all storms that life has thrown their way. We’ll now say it again, one more time, Guerdy is an inspiration.
