Though filming hasn’t started on Season 3 of Below Deck Down Under, Captain Jason Chambers is dropping some breadcrumbs.
Production has started discussing the third season of the popular Australian spinoff, but Captain Jason isn’t part of that conversation. “They leave me very much out of it,” he confessed. “That’s the way they operate.” And that’s the way he likes it.
The hunky Australian native is happy not being one of the show’s decision-makers. They just tell him where to go, and he goes. “I like that when the location’s picked, I’ll turn up to a boat,” he said. “I’ll meet the crew, and then I’ll get on with it … So, they do keep me at an arm’s distance, which I like.” In Touch has all the details.
New safety policies coming for Season 3
In Season 2, Captain Jason faced a difficult situation after drunk and naked bosun Luke Jones climbed into stewardess Margot Sisson’s bed without her consent. Fortunately, the on-site production crew quickly stepped in and insisted Luke return to his own cabin. But when Chief Stew Aesha Scott reported the incident, Jason immediately removed Luke from the boat and fired him the next morning. Second stew Laura Bileskalne was also terminated for her inappropriate sexual behavior and comments.
In light of this and other past inappropriate situations (I’m looking at you, Gary King), NBC and Bravo are working to implement some “policies and procedures” supporting a safer work environment.
“There’s … more understanding from outside looking in that we can actually control some of [the inappropriate behavior],” Jason revealed. One of the changes he’d like to see is a “no-alcoholic beverages” policy. Though crew members work hard on charter and deserve to blow off some steam in their time off, excessive alcohol consumption causes a lot of problems among the staff. Not the least of which is the effect on their work the day after, when many of the crew are sick and hungover.
“That would be great from a captain’s point of view,” the captain continued, “because the safety aspect is still there … I don’t see anything until the audience does. I actually obviously will implement my own style going forward for Season 3. Whether that’s in tune with NBC or Bravo, I’m not sure, but I definitely will be putting my two cents in as a captain.”
