Real Housewives of Orange County star Shannon Beador found herself driving the struggle bus this year. Not only did her boyfriend, John Janssen, end their relationship. But then he started dating RHOC alum, Alexis Bellino. There was already chatter that Alexis may be holding an orange again for Season 18.
And let us not forget that Shannon was arrested for DUI after plowing into a house. She has to attend alcohol classes and complete 40 hours of community service.
How being part of RHOC impacted Shannon’s marriage to David Beador
Shannon joined producer Alex Baskin for Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast to discuss her marriage to David Beador. This podcast is available for a $3.99 per month subscription. “October 13, 2013, was my first day of filming. And the very next day, David left on a trip with a group that he was in. And he started an affair that very next day,” Shannon explained. “Right then?” Alex asked.
“And I had no idea. Yeah, and as his ego grew and as he started losing weight, I thought it was because his ego was getting bigger, that he was going to be on television now. And I remember asking Tamra [Judge] about that, like, did Simon [Barney] all of a sudden get cocky like this?” Shannon commented. “And I was like, so stupid. I had no idea.” Meanwhile, I still have flashbacks of David weeping over Shannon in a faux coffin during that marriage retreat.
“But do you think that part of the reason that you were attracted to doing the show in the first place is that you might have sensed that your marriage was not in a great place, or no?” Alex asked. “Well, no. Yes, I knew that David didn’t spend any time with me, and I thought, this is my ass-backward way of thinking. I thought that if he watched the show back and saw how little time he spent with me, he would make more of an effort,” Shannon explained. Oof.
“Like most people would say, ‘I don’t want to ruin my marriage and be on the show,’ I was thinking, ‘Oh, maybe he can learn something from it.’”
Would Shannon have left David earlier?
Then Alex asked how RHOC changed Shannon’s life in the beginning. And she had an interesting response. “I think I might have done it differently had I not been on the show after discovering the affair. I think that I would have left the marriage right away,” she stated. “But part of me, you know, I was working on the marriage for my first season and it was all fake with him. I mean, I have been fighting for this marriage this whole season, so I’m going to keep fighting.” Shannon added, “I don’t…I don’t know that I would have kept up the fight had I not been on the show.”
