The flip side of being a reality TV star has to be dealing with the tabloids. There is no shame in that industry, and no situation too sacred to exploit.
Such was the experience Olivia Flowers had after her brother’s death. The Southern Charm star found out her beloved brother, Conner Flowers, passed away while filming Season 9. Consequently, she’s had to live out the nightmare in the public eye. Even more so than fans realize, according to recent statements the South Carolina native told Amanda Hirsch on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast.
“That’s foul,” Olivia said of tabloid intrusion
“I wanted to address your brother’s passing. I’m so sorry. That was so hard to watch and I’m sure hard to experience. And hard to film,” host Amanda Hirsch said in the TikTok clip.
“After that episode aired I got a call from the coroner’s office in Charleston and they called and said, ‘Page Six is blowing us up for the coroner’s report,'” Olivia revealed.
The interest in Conner’s death was a surprise to the Bravolebrity, who was also unaware of the lengths tabloids would go to procure private information about her brother’s passing.
“I was just like, ‘What’s the legal response here? Do you have to?’ And there’s this law called Freedom of Information Right, and under that, you have to turn over… For $65 you can get medical results like that,” Olivia explained.
Amanda was shocked that Page Six didn’t “need” the family’s “permission” to print the coroner’s report.
“She was giving you a heads up,” she stated of the coroner’s call to the Southern Charm star.
Olivia had to quickly adapt to the situation, and, sadly, accept that the public at large was privy to the reason for Conner’s passing.
“I learned a lot, legally, about our laws and stuff,” she said. “And that time, I was like, ‘Wow that’s foul.'”
