Tom Schwartz’s living situation has recently gotten a “rebrand.” According to the Vanderpump Rules star, he’s reached a “turning point” one year after the finalization of his divorce from Katie Maloney.
“I think I wouldn’t be ashamed to bring someone in there anymore,” he shares. “My TV in the living room is no longer on the floor. I have a nightstand … It’s still giving midlife crisis post-divorce vibes, but it’s a lot cozier in there.”
Even though “it’s no longer the depression chamber,” Tom admits his current apartment is not his forever home. As he tells PEOPLE, “It’s now my $4,000 a month storage unit … until I either buy a new house or get a new apartment. So that’s how I look at it now, and I’m grateful to have a roof over my head.”
Life after divorce in Schwartz’s bachelor pad
In March 2022, the Winter House visitor and the You’re Gonna Love Me podcaster announced their split on Instagram. They continued to live together in their Valley Village home, until it sold and they both moved into separate apartments.
Three months later, the couple said a sad goodbye to their “dream home.” Neither of them could afford to keep the house alone due to the high cost of a mortgage, maintenance and property taxes in Southern California.
At the time of the move, Katie shared a poignant photo of herself on Instagram sitting alone in an empty room.
“I hate goodbyes,” she captioned the post. “And this one hurts a lot. The emotions and words are hard to pin down. Closing this chapter on my life feels like attending my own funeral. But I’m very much alive.”
I know how you feel, Katie. Been there, done that. You’ll have another house someday and, hopefully, another partner who’s more of a grownup than Tom was ever capable of being.
Vanderpump Rules returns to Bravo for Season 11 in January 2024.
