Tom Sandoval had prepared himself to try to chip away at his self-care routines for Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.
The 41-year-old Vanderpump Rules star talked to PEOPLE about his style choices, initial reactions to his interrogation, and why he kept his signature nail polish during the series.
Nail polish helped Sandoval tell his story
Special Forces has now come to an end, but not before an interrogation for Sandy. Tom shared that he kept his signature nail polish on during his tenure on Special Forces because he thought it would be “kind of funny.”
“I was actually kind of glad that I had it on because it felt like it went along with our story of being social media influencers and not soldiers or in training or anything like that,” he explained.
The reality TV star confessed that he anticipated a lot of conversations about his nail care, saying that he thought it would probably be something that would be brought up, “especially in the interrogation part.”
So when the interrogator brought up the mani, Tom wasn’t thrown off.
“What’s with the varnish on your nails?” he was asked during his intense six-hour military-grade interrogation. He kept his answer simple, “Oh, it’s just kinda my thing.”
But the Special Forces interrogators were unimpressed by Tom’s nail care and suggested that he deserved a “slap or worse.” He’s heard that before.
One interrogator grabbed Tom’s hand and said, “Forget about this. I want you to start listening to what you’re being told. No messing around. No delaying things.”
I mean, he’s not wrong. It wouldn’t hurt Tom to take other things as seriously as he takes his nail care. He even decided not to meet up with his pal Tom Schwartz once because he went to a nail appointment instead.
Hopefully, Special Forces has taught Tom some valuable lessons that he can take with him beyond the show. But that might just be wishful thinking.
Special Forces streams on Hulu.
