Captain Sandy Yawn’s engagement to Leah Shafer is the latest Bravo society event to look forward to. Perhaps not as big as Teresa Giudice’s wedding day hairstyle, but there’s buzz about the Below Deck Mediterranean captain wedding her lady love after getting engaged on September 18.
It’s too early to get all the details of the event, but longtime maritime (law) friend and fellow Bravolebrity, Malia White revealed a surprised decision about the wedding.
Malia is still “going to the wedding”
Malia spoke about Sandy’s nuptials during an exclusive conversation with Us Weekly to promote Season 3 of Winter House. She and former Below Deck Mediterranean co-star Katie Flood were House guests on the new season alongside their former boss, Captain Sandy.
“I was supposed to officiate it until someone stole my spot,” Malia said of Sandy’s wedding.
Despite the change, Malia is still planning to attend the wedding as a regular guest.
“[I’m] definitely going to the wedding. Captain Sandy’s always been a mentor and she continues to be and Leah is amazing. We see them quite often, actually,” Malia said of her friendship with the couple.
Sandy and Malia’s working relationship goes back to to Season 2 of Below Deck Med, when she was a deckhand. Malia returned as the first female bosun in Season 5. Now, she has worked her way up to First Officer and is employed on a yacht alongside Katie.
Malia also told Us Weekly about her plans to continue participating in reality TV. She explained, “I’m always down for more Below Deck in the future. I’m an officer now though. And Katie and I work on the same boat and we work on rotation, so it’d have to be a pretty sweet deal. We love our actual job and we’re together for that too. But I think if they’re ready for the first female officer [on the show], then I’m ready.”
Catch Winter House Tuesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
