If I’m being honest, I didn’t think Meredith Marks and her husband Seth Marks would make it. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star spent her first season on the hit franchise seemingly despising him. The two even separated during that time.
But by the following season, things were apparently fine. Better than fine. The couple, who has been married for over 25 years, were on the right track. But on the latest episode of their podcast, Hanging by a Thread, Meredith opened up about another major bump in their marriage.
Meredith’s fears
After 15 years together, Meredith requested a postnuptial agreement. She shared, “I was moving with three children from Chicago to Park City, Utah, where if you were to go get a divorce it is not favorable for women in Utah. I was worried that I would love my children and be stuck somewhere that I didn’t know and that he would leave me.”
Meredith then clarified that there was “nothing financial in it, it was strictly about custody of our children.” A surprised Seth replied, “You thought I was going to leave you?”
This admission comes on the heels of the most recent episode of RHOSLC. In one of her confessionals, Meredith admitted, “I don’t think Seth remembers how bad things really were. Like, back then I was terrified he was leaving. Like, we were not happy together. It was not good.”
Seth told Meredith, “I wasn’t there from an emotional support standpoint, and I regret that and I apologize for that.”
Where things went wrong
Of their separation, Meredith explained in one episode, “Over the years, it just broke down. We moved many times. We kind of were uprooted — I was trying to start my company, he was running his business, we had the three kids. There was just no communication and hostility built and built and built, and we just got so totally overwhelmed that we just were completely disconnected.”
Thankfully, with the help of couples counseling, Meredith assured us that they are “very strong, very united.”
