DWTS drama for Rylee Arnold! On October 17, Dancing with the Stars’ newest professional, Rylee, and her partner, Harry Jowsey, performed a quickstep routine. Dancing as Woody and Bo Peep from Toy Story, they earned their highest scores yet on Disney Night.
Rylee has been a welcome addition, especially since her older sister, professional dancer Lindsay Arnold, has left the show to devote attention to her growing family. She looks so much like Lindsay and has the same cheerful enthusiasm.
But was it just coincidence that Rylee and Harry performed the same dance to the same music (“You’ve Got a Friend in Me”) in costumes nearly identical to one of Lindsay’s performances in 2019? Some viewers noticed that part of the choreography was also identical to Lindsay’s performance with Sean Spicer in Season 28. Pfft! Spicer. I still hold him personally responsible for the termination of Tom Bergeron and the two years of Hell that was Tyra Banks.
Fans react to the recycled DWTS choreography from Rylee Arnold
Eagle-eyed fans who spotted the matching choreography (from four years ago!) signed onto Reddit to express their opinions.
Some suggested that either her sister was helping her or she just outright stole Lindsay’s choreography. “I was wondering how an 18-year-old with likely minimal choreography experience was going to hold up against the other pros. Now I know how she’s doing it,” wrote one commenter.
“I’m sorry but this is wild. If Lindsay wants to choreograph for her at least she could choreograph original content?? Nobody would ever know if she did that but instead she is copying dances step by step,” another added.
“Obviously choreo is reused sometimes. But to the exact same song, at the exact same part, on the exact same theme night?” wrote a third person.
Apparently, the recycled sequence didn’t bother too many fans, as Rylee and Harry advanced to the next week of competition. They have a lot of charisma together and laugh off the usual rumors of a romance.
And Harry’s enjoying the comradery of DWTS, compared to the dating-type shows he’s used to. “There’s a feel-good nature to the competitive stuff that’s different from the dating shows I’ve done where everyone just wants to hook up with somebody,” he observed.
And now I can’t stop humming “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” Damn catchy little ditty.
Dancing with the Stars Season 32 continues Tuesdays on ABC.
