Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney first started planning their sandwich shop during Vanderpump Rules Season 9. Named Something About Her, their vision is one of the most anticipated openings for its West Hollywood strip. That said, Season 11 is about to start airing, and the girls’ sandwich shop has still not opened. So what’s going on?
Never fear, if you were. The ladies have hit a few snags, but Something About Her is still chugging along. This is everything that has been released, which should help to explain what the ladies have done, as well as what the hold-up is for the opening of their sandwich shop.
First Off, The Girls Get It, They’re Frustrated Too
The estimated opening date for Something About Her has come and gone. Ariana and Katie have each poured their finances and sweat equity into this concept. Therefore, we can trust that these unexpected delays have annoyed them both to the fullest. Probably not helping is the public’s constant asking of “when,” which is likely why they have decided to turn to humor when addressing this repeated question.
Poking fun of themselves, the girls created a reel using the voice of Andy Cohen, clipped from a Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion. Here, they shared that they cannot reveal their shop’s official opening date, as they are currently in the dark. However, they have made progress in several different areas, which shows that sooner rather than later, their jokes will turn into an actual opening of Something About Her.
The Menu Has Been Tested
Vanderpump Rules Season 11 just wrapped filming. From the various stories and posts that were shared, we can glean that a taste testing will take place at some point during this season. We can also decipher that it must be hard to line up a reels audio with the actors involved.
That said, Ariana and Katie have been hard at work on their menu, which takes them one step closer to the actual opening date of their sandwich shop.
The Interior Is All Set
Not only is the menu ready, so is the interior of Something About Her. On an episode of Everything Iconic with Danny Pellegrino, Katie revealed that the vision for their space was actually inspired by the feels that one gets while watching a Nancy Meyers romantic-comedy.
Wanting this same overall vibe, Katie did a bit of research, which connected her to Jon Hutman, the production designer for many of Nancy’s films. Though vague, Katie then confirmed that the Emmy-winning designer did, in fact, assist with Something About Her’s interior design.
Clearly, Ariana and Katie didn’t come to play. With a chic interior now in place, this sandwich shop’s opening date is creeping all the closer.
Red Tape and Permitting Has Entered The Chat
In the Instagram post above that speaks about the interior, a super cute exterior can also be seen. With dark gray as the base and clean pops of bright yellow and white on the awning, it’s clear that the ladies have put in a lot of time, perfecting their vision. Unfortunately, this cozy patio has since been fully ripped out. Red tape, permitting, and the city’s future plans have all officially entered into the chat.
During Ariana’s “Single AF Cocktails” virtual signing, she spoke on this very topic. When this was then shared by Taste of Reality, viewers began to question how Ariana and Katie could have gotten their exterior so wrong. On this, Ariana explained “the city wants to turn Robertson into a walking street in 2024/2025. With their new plans, things had to change, the entire outer facade of the building had to change.”
The ladies were therefore required to take their brand new patio out, but this wasn’t the end of their headaches with the city. When talking about the red tape that still remained, Ariana further explained that “we have to have an awning completely redone to fit the new facade of the building, and in order to do that, you have to permit for the awning, you have to permit the sign…you have to permit…[sigh] it’s a process.”
Ariana is once again choosing to turn hassle(s) into humor. “Open a little cute sandwich shop they said, it’ll be fun they said,” she laughed. “Then you get to all the red tape and everything and you realize it’s not so simple.” Hopefully, all of the needed permits will soon pass, allowing Ariana and Katie to finally open Bravo‘s newest reality television owned locale.
The Verdict Is … Soon(ish)
Ariana and Katie have been working on Something About Her for years. As viewers, we were there when the ladies first decided to become business partners. We’ve also seen all of the progress that the pair has since made, which shouldn’t be taken lightly. Currently, the hold-up isn’t on their end, so any answers on an exact opening date is out of their hands.
However, Ariana is confident in this all coming to an end shortly. “Something About Her will be open soon, I promise,” she further stated, in the post just one section above. If you’ve ever dealt with construction and permitting, then you’ll likely know exactly what Ariana meant (and felt) when she sighed and stressed “it’s a process.” Likewise, this will all hopefully help to explain why the ladies’ hands are currently tied, while also showing that they are doing everything that they can possibly do to help speed things along.
