Project Runway Season 20 is close to reaching its end. The All Stars have been whittled down to four, and by the end of Episode 13, we have our final three. But which of the designers will get to show their collection in the final episode, and be in with a shot of walking away with a bunch of incredible prizes, including $250,000? Here’s everything that went down in Project Runway Season 20, Episode 13.

The sky’s the limit on Project Runway

Bishme recognizes he has a “mission to complete,” after being kicked out of his original season at the final four. Christian will let him and the other All Stars know exactly how to do that, at the Summit, One Vanderbilt building. It’s a stunning piece of architecture, with mirrored design and glass absolutely everywhere. If you were looking for a glimpse into the future, then this may be just where to get it.

For their final challenge, the designers must create an avant-garde look inspired by the architecture of the building. This means taking inspiration from reflections, skewed proportions, contrasting colors, and the cutting edge.

With a short time to sketch while inside the building, and $700 to spend at Mood, it’s the most important challenge of the competition. It’s the one that could see them reach finale. “Take a risk,” Christian advises. “Somebody needs to go crazy with this, I want something insane.” The heat is on.

Big ideas from every angle

Rami notes that “everyone here is worthy of the finale.” He couldn’t be more correct in his assessment. The beauty of the competition is that each of these designers can deliver something stunning and unique. They’re all very different, and that’s to be celebrated.

As Christian enjoys his final walkthrough of the season, Brittany notes it is their 24th walkthrough together. As such, he offers some advice! He thinks Brittany’s design could be more cropped at the waist, or even go bigger and bubbly, with a cleaner design up top.

Over with Bishme, he suggests doing something different with the baseball cap. Perhaps this could be the cherry on the top of the avant-garde design? Bishme takes the advice and runs with it, turning the cap backwards and adding an over-the-eye portion.

Laurence is making an “architectual dress,” and it looks technically impossible to create. Of course, if anyone can do it, Laurence can. Christian advises she add “one surprising element.”

Finally, Christian tells Rami he is “a little nervous.” There are a “lot of things,” and perhaps there’s time to edit for “some other silhouette.”

Who brings avant-garde to the runway?

Runway day arrives, and the judges Nina, Brandon, and Elaine have two guests on the panel: Law Roach, and Steven Kolb. So, who delivered? Here’s my rundown of the looks this week, from my personal point of view…

  • Bishme’s design is up first, and I instantly fall in love with the color. It’s a construction of metallic beauty, and there’s great innovation with the baseball cap. Listening to Christian paid off – who knew?!
  • Rami’s next, and the editing was a smart choice, as the outfit still delivers drama from every angle.
  • Brittany’s look is classic Brittany. The sleeves reveal was awesome, and I think that her critiques on the fabric were a little harsh. It was shining on TV!
  • Finally, Laurence delivers what is my winner of the week. It looks industrial, with a perfect fit. She took what should have been complicated, and made it look easy.

What did the judges think?

“There are certain details that are not the usual perfection that you deliver,” Nina said of Rami’s design. “I couldn’t use that on a red carpet,” Law added. Steven did compliment the outfit, however, saying it was a “very tall, strong look.”

“I’m obsessed with this hat,” Law said about Bishme’s offering. “Outside of the hat, I don’t know that it feels so new.” Brandon agreed, and said he “struggled a bit with the fact it was so referential,” while Nina focused on the color, which was “what I really loved the most.”

“This would be really great on an album cover,” Law said of Brittany’s design. “When it comes to what the challenge was, it’s a miss … this isn’t avant-garde at all.” Elaine disagreed, and said she blended streetwear and avant-garde well. Nina, however, sided with Law. “I have seen a version of this look [before] and I’m disappointed,” she said.

Finally, Laurence was given props for her design. “I’ve never seen you smile so much on the runway, and I love it,” Elaine said. “You really delivered,” added Nina.

Who made the Project Runway Season 20 finale?

When all was said and done, Bishme was named the winner. “It feels great,” he said, noting he was “ready to make this collection.” Laurence was also called as “in,” and said she “can’t wait to create freely.”

With it down to Brittany and Rami, Rami was sadly declared out. It’s a devastating loss, as would any elimination at this point have been. I personally would have enjoyed seeing all four deliver a collection in finale as part of a twist, but it wasn’t to be.

Rami said it was “an honor” to have competed on the show multiple times, and meet so many people, hearing their stories and making lifelong friendships.

Next week, it’s the finale, and nerves are setting in…

Project Runway continues Thursdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
