Last night’s episode of Married At First Sight was very interesting. The experts gave the couples the opportunity to face their past by writing letters to their younger selves. It’s obvious that many of them have faced challenges that they may even still be combating as adults. But it was nice to see them really be so open about their fears and insecurities. My hope is that the participants really take this information to heart and use it to understand their spouses.
The couples go back to their roots and share the memories that made them who they are. Some couples get into the tough and sad moments of their past, while others struggle to open up. One wife’s outrageous demand has her husband second-guessing their relationship. Let’s get straight into the recap!
Airris & Jasmine
Jasmine is discovering her attraction for Airris is fading rather quickly. Initially, she was attracted to him on a physical level, but because of the state of their marriage, she no longer feels that way. In an effort to try and connect, he attempted to share more about his childhood and how it has shaped him. Although Jasmine appeared to be attentive, all she probably heard in their conversation was that he has a tendency to run.
Airris and Jasmine read the letters they wrote to their younger selves. Both were very thoughtful and honest. After listening to Jasmine speak, a lot of things began to make sense about her personality. As someone who was bullied in school, it makes sense that she would clam up when she feels rejected and hurt. Hopefully, her letter offered Airris more insight into who she is as a person. I have to admit Airris was really making an attempt to be more vulnerable. This is a stark difference in the conversations now versus earlier in their marriage when he only talked about sex.
Christopher & Nicole
Nicole shared more details about her past with Chris. Like most teenagers, she had a rebellious phase. I’m confused why she thought what she did during that time period would affect their marriage now. Is there a secret love child, a prison stint, or something she hasn’t told us yet? Or maybe she still doesn’t believe she is worthy of a nice guy and real love. Chris has his own crosses to bear in relation to his childhood and how it shaped his relationship with his father. It feels like his marriage to Nicole has helped him become closer to him in some ways. Hopefully, she recognized some of these good things and did not focus on the bad things that can happen.

Clint & Gina
Clint and Gina both took each other to special places that shaped their lives. These two have come such a long way. Now they are able to relate to each other and enjoy spending time together. Gina even invites some of her staff over to grill Clint. I would say that the meeting was a success and he got a lot more insight into his wife and how she relates to others and her job.
Shaquille & Kirsten
Shaq was shocked when Kirsten revealed that she is ready to buy a house and have a baby. She also informed him that it is he who needs to purchase the home for her. Obviously, this wasn’t what he envisioned, but she makes her expectations clear. Later, Kirsten explained more about her childhood and why she has set the bar so high. Her father was the ultimate provider and she wants her husband to be as well. I don’t think she is going to find that in Shaq. I don’t think he is quite ready for that level of responsibility. He even confronted her about the matter. He is obviously looking for a partnership and not a “my way or the highway” situation.
In an interesting twist, on a double date, Shaq offered some words of encouragement to Jasmine. He also shares some of the obstacles he is facing in his own marriage. He is bothered that he still hasn’t met Kirsten’s father. Is it just me or does it seem like Shaq and Jasmine may have been a better match? Immediately I could see Jasmine was relaxed and open with Shaq in a way that she hasn’t been with Airris. This may be a situation to watch.
