Let’s start with an offering of thanks to the reality TV gods for giving us exactly what we didn’t know we needed: a little captain-on-captain smackdown. In an abstract sense, of course. Captain Lee Rosbach took a virtual swipe at Captain Sandy Yawn by questioning her management after she fired deck/stew Camille Lamb without telling him first. The Below Deck Mediterranean captain had been filling for the Stud of the Sea while he dealt with a sciatic nerve injury.
What has ensued is a sly exchange on social media to coincide with what’s going on as the episodes air. Were it not Captain Lee’s final season on Below Deck, his feud with Captain Sandy might have escalated or resolved itself on camera. Instead, we’ll have to settle for a more cryptic approach.
Sandy addressed the feud while promoting her book Be the Calm or Be the Storm: Leadership Lessons. When Captain Sandy spoke with Us Weekly, she questioned her colleague’s mindset.
“I’m not in his shoes. I don’t know what’s going on mentally,” Sandy said. “I can only imagine. After seeing the condition Captain Lee was in [during season 10] — I went back to the gym and started doing Pilates. I’m a lot younger — 20 years younger — I honestly don’t wanna be that.”
If Captain Lee was upset about being informed about Camille’s firing after the fact, then he would have been shocked to return to the vessel amidst a further crew shakeup.
Regarding Alissa Humber’s firing, he said in the most recent episode that Captain Sandy, “Did the right thing. If they need to go, they need to go. She’s the one that had to deal with it and I am sure she made the best decision for the boat and the crew. I can’t express how much I appreciate [her filling in for me]. And maybe one day I will get to return the favor for her,” he added.

Contrast that reaction with what he was putting out on social media. In a prior social media post, Captain Lee tweeted, “So, I found out after the fact that she fired one of my crew, not before. Ok?” Then why contact me after and tell me at all? Plenty of time to call me after, but not before. She made the right call. But lacked in procedure and respect. Just the way I roll.”
Captain Sandy tried to resolve the issue by reaching out to the Below Deck reality star. “I tried to call him,” she revealed. “I am just so grateful to be alive because I almost died so many times.” Sandy continued, “I have no enemies. I’m here to love and live and that’s it. Like I love puppies, I love people and I love life.”
Despite the quality of her management style, Captain Sandy certainly has enough experience to fill a book. Especially from her time on Below Deck Mediterranean. And that’s exactly what she did. Be the Calm or Be the Storm: Leadership Lessons came about because Sandy wanted to mentor her fans.
“The fans were asking for a book on leadership, and I thought [I would] just throw a little bit of my personal life in there,” she explained. But there is always room for improvement. And Sandy admitted that she is not done learning.
“My teachable moment was maybe not step on a vessel without a handover. That was a big boat and I was really intimidated to be honest,” Sandy admitted. “I never ran that vessel before in my life, so maybe a little more training before I step out the helm next time.”
Apparently, Captain Lee is parting ways with Below Deck. Captain Kerry Titheradge will be taking over in Season 11.
