Candiace Dillard Bassett has taken a lot of heat from her castmates since she joined Real Housewives of Potomac. And her counterparts, along with Andy Cohen, have regularly brought it up at each reunion. Candiace has often admitted to going low, but there’s one thing that she’s not going to put up with.
As reported by Reality Blurb, Candiace made an appearance on Housewife to Housewife with Sutton Stracke. It turns out Sutton thinks have something in common – being the “common denominator” in their franchise drama. Sutton, who is on her third season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, thinks it’s a good thing. But Candiace disagrees.
Candiace recalled when Andy brought it up during the season 6 reunion of RHOP. She shared, “Oh God, Andy called me that at the reunion and I almost flipped my sh-t.” Candiace went on to say that she didn’t “want to say [she’s] picked on” because she doesn’t want to be a victim.
The budding singer also admitted she doesn’t understand why her castmates are “so triggered” when she cries. Candiace explained, “What I say is, ‘That is not a reflection of me. That is a reflection of you and your low emotional intelligence. You need to go to therapy and figure out why me expressing emotion is triggering to you. Because I’m releasing mine. I’m going to be able to sleep tonight because I cried and I’m letting my emotion out.'”
Despite the online criticism, Candiace also seems to think that speaking up about the different standards between Housewives is a non-negotiable. After RHOBH villain Lisa Rinna made some questionable comments on social media, Candiace spoke out on Twitter. A fan asked, “At the #RHOBH reunion I want Andy to tell Rinnashe’s a mess on social media the way he told @thereal CANDIACE. Cause Rinna gets away with saying a lot worse than Candiace did. #RHOP.” Candiace quickly responded, “They all get away with worse.”
This isn’t the first time Candiace has expressed her opinion on the matter either. She previously weighed in on Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s Lisa Barlow’s antics on the show. Candiace stated in a tweet, “She’s white. Black women can’t get angry. Like, truly angry. We’re vile and violent when we’re angry. White girls are always allowed the full scope of emotion. That was easy. Now, watch them justify her to tear me down some more. In 3, 2, 1….”
