First year housewives typically hang back to get a feel for the room. Crystal Kung Minkoff stuck to that plan when she made her debut on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills last season. Aside from calling out castmate Sutton Stracke for some insensitive words, she mostly stayed out of the mess of Erika Jayne’s saga. But based on the season 12 trailer, she clearly feels a little differently now. In the teaser, Erika goes after her for thinking it’s “cool” to side with the victims of her husband’s alleged bamboozling. Yeah, duh. It’s cool to have empathy.
But it turns out that Erika isn’t the only one Crystal came to blows with this season. As reported by Reality Blurb, Crystal made an appearance on the podcast Two T’s In A Pod, hosted by Tamra Judge and Teddi Mellencamp. On the episode, she took the opportunity to defend herself from Lisa Rinna’s accusation that she’s different when the cameras are rolling. Crystal admitted, “I got into it a little bit with Rinna, who I really like. At one point she goes, ‘Teddi said that you aren’t like this in real life.'”

Apparently, Teddi is the one who referred Crystal to the show. Teddi explained, “The one thing that I’ve noticed about Crystal, because I’ve known her for nine years, is that Crystal, not on television, is the life of the party. I’m telling you, she walks into every room. She’s having fun. She’s dancing. She’s twerking. She’s over the top, so much fun, which is why I originally referred her on the show.” Teddi then addressed Crystal and noted, “You’re a little bit different on the show.”
As for how Crystal reacted to Rinna’s claim, she told her, “You’re right. Because I’m not comfortable around you guys. I like being around Teddi and that’s why I’m normal around her.” I find it interesting that Teddi has so much fun with these women and yet it never translated while she was on screen. Anyway.

Despite the dig, Crystal did her best to “let it go” more for her second season. She shared, “After last year, I was like, ‘Let go.’ Because I’m so stressed about the cameras. If cameras are not your thing, like you didn’t seek that out, it’s super uncomfortable. So watching everyone fight, it’s like, because everyone sort of, they’re not faking, they just level up. And I don’t know how to level up I’m just the same all the time.”
Crystal concluded that even when she wants to relax and have fun, she can become “very insular” when she’s nervous. She concluded, “I’m like, ‘I don’t know what to do.’ So it’s actually me being very real in that environment.”
