Everyone knows that trust is paramount in a healthy relationship. Which is something that is regularly tested on reality tv shows, like Netflix’s Love Is Blind and The Ultimatum. Both hit shows are hosted by longtime married couple Nick Lachey and wife Vanessa Lachey. And the two have been open with contestants about what it’s like to have struggles in a relationship.
Their latest hosting gig on The Ultimatum follows 6 couples that are facing a marriage ultimatum from one partner. The couple then splits up and starts a “trial” marriage with another cast member. At the end of three weeks, both partners have to decide if they want to reunite with their original love. The twist is that they could end up choosing to pursue someone new. It’s high stakes for these couples. And while Nick and Vanessa have found happiness in each other, some of the couples’ issues felt a little too familiar.
As reported by Us Weekly, Vanessa admitted on the show that she had “mixed feelings” about one contestant who was snooping through her boyfriend’s phone. Said Vanessa, “There was a time in my life when I did it.” She then said to Nick, “You did it too! I’m actually surprised you figured out my password, [which] was a good one.” Vanessa then revealed, “I remember we went to a therapist and she was like, ‘If y’all are going through each other’s phones then you shouldn’t be together.’ I was like, ‘You’re right. I need to trust this man and he needs to trust me.’”
After Nick famously got divorced from ex-wife Jessica Simpson, he started dating Vanessa. The couple briefly split in 2009, only to get back together and marry in 2011. In the early days of their relationship, Vanessa reflected on how difficult it was being in the public eye. She explained of husband Nick, “He was literally in a very public marriage and a very public divorce, and I had to go through all that s–t very publicly and it was very hard for us.” Vanessa added, “It wasn’t until the moment that he was like, ‘I’m gonna let it go,’ and I said, ‘I’m gonna let it go,’ and we truly committed to each other. We literally fell deeper and harder than we ever could.”
Vanessa and Nick went on to have three children together, now aged 9, 7, and 5. And it seems like the the Lacheys are in a great place in life, both emotionally and geographically. Vanessa gushed last month, “I’ve never felt more at home than I do in Hawaii. Honestly, I constantly tell [Nick] how lucky I feel that we get to be here as a family. I feel like I’m meant to be an Air Force brat, like, traveling all around the world.” She concluded, “I’ve never really felt like I was home until here. It’s beautiful. The kids are, like, out playing.”
