Vanderpump Rules cast members took a detour to “splitsville” recently. James Kennedy and Raquel Leviss called off their engagement. Katie Maloney decided it was time to move on from her husband, Tom Schwartz, after 12 years together.
Katie filed for divorce on March 22, 2022. The VPR couple were fighting often, and Schwartz placed the blame for their split on himself. He continued to wear his wedding ring after Katie filed for divorce.
Katie said that one of the problems in their relationship was Schwartz not backing her up. This fact was painfully apparent last season on Pump Rules when Schwartz refused to stand up to his bestie and business partner, Tom Sandoval, about Katie being involved in their new bar.
VPR star Lala Kent weighed in on Schwartz and Katie’s split, noting that she was surprised. “Yeah, I thought that Schwartz would come to the table a little bit, and he still didn’t. So, very telling,” Lala remarked. She also said that no one had taken sides in the breakup since it was amicable.
Amicable is definitely not the word to describe Lala’s split with fiancé and baby daddy Randall Emmett. Randall allegedly cheated on Lala, and she has blasted him every chance that she gets. According to Lala, Randall even proposed with a fake engagement ring. Lala only communicates with him through an app regarding their daughter, Ocean Emmett. Lala would like to move to “zero contact.”
Lala decided that her peeps needed to make a choice between her and her slimy ex. At the time, only Schwartz was still following Randall on social media. In fact, Randall claimed that he was still in touch with Schwartz and was good friends with Jax Taylor. Color me shocked. It’s like a trifecta of disappointing male behavior.
During a recent appearance on the Watch What Happens Live After Show, Lala revealed that Schwartz had seen Randall, “so I cut him out.”
Katie has Lala’s back. She told E! News, “That’s kind of like her M.O. and I can’t fault her for that.” Katie added that she “understands it fully.”
“She feels strongly about Randall and how things have gone down and the person that he is, and how she doesn’t want him in her life, and I can’t fault her for that,” she explained.

Katie continued, “She’s made it abundantly clear to all of us and she said it explicitly. So, for anyone to kind of take that and go back and decide to continue a friendship or relationship knowing…it is what it is,” she added.
So, has Katie’s split with Schwartz affected their friend group? “Nothing has changed,” Katie said. “I know that sometimes when there’s a big breakup or a divorce it can… it can be messy, and it’s still complex, but it hasn’t caused too much of a ripple effect when it comes to our friends or anything like that.”
Katie is still teaming up with Sandoval’s girlfriend, Ariana Madix, to open their own sandwich shop. Go, ladies! “I like our friendship. It’s still very much the same and obviously, planning our sandwich shop, that’s made our friendship thicker and more rich in that sense because we’re going into business,” she shared.
Katie and Schwartz are in a good place as well and were spotted grabbing drinks post-split.
