Another Vanderpump Rules couple has called it quits. Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz decided to end their sometimes-volatile relationship. Pump Rules fans may fondly recall how Tom drunkenly cheated on Katie, and how “Tequila Katie” would pepper Tom with her rage texts. Good times.
In 2020, Tom stated that he was somewhat surprised that they were still together. “I mean, arguably at so many points in our relationship, you could say, ‘They probably should’ve broken up or gone their separate ways.’” Wow.
Well, it appears that Katie wanted out of the relationship. In an Instagram post on March 15, 2022, Katie wrote, “I never thought I would have to make an announcement like this. After 12 years on an adventure through our life together Tom and I are ending our marriage.” She continued, “This ending is not met with resentment or animosity, no sides to choose.”
Tom’s announcement on Instagram was a bit melancholy. “Katie & I are separating. I’m not quite ready to use the ‘D’ word because it’s too painful.” He added, “Fully respect[s] Katie’s decision and we’ve had healthy, productive conversations about it. It would be far sadder if she decided to stay with me whilst not happy.” Tom was still sporting his wedding ring the day after the news broke.
E! News reported that Tom is taking responsibility for the break down of their marriage. On March 16, 2022 Tom was spotted outside of a Home Depot store in Los Angeles, where he chatted with a photographer. When he was asked how he is doing, Tom replied that he was feeling “OK.” He added, “Of course I’m sad, but, you know, we still love each other very much.”

The VPR star said that he has been working hard to get his new bar with bestie Tom Sandoval ready to open. The photographer asked if Sandoval was part of the reason that Katie and Tom decided to split. Tom responded, “No, no that’s all on me. I wish I had a scapegoat, but that’s all on me.”
At least he is owning it. “It’s complicated, obviously. But nothing in particular,” Tom commented about the split. “You know, life, you know. It’s complicated.”
When Tom was quizzed about the future of Vanderpump Rules, he admitted that he isn’t sure what will happen with the show. “I don’t know what the future of the show holds. I’m always optimistic, eternally,” Tom stated. “And yeah, I’m doing OK. I’m staying busy.”

Last season on Pump Rules, Tom and Katie struggled with infertility. They also dealt with tension between Katie and Sandoval. Katie wanted to be involved in the new bar. Sandoval accused Katie of using the new bar as her story line for the season.
Tom finally told Sandoval to give his wife some respect, and Sandoval responded that they needed a friendship break. Sandoval’s ego was on steroids. Katie and Sandoval’s girlfriend, Ariana Madix, decided to open their own sandwich shop. You go, ladies!
Tom and Katie got married in August of 2016 in a woodland wedding. In July of 2019, the duo wed again in Las Vegas. Apparently the first wedding wasn’t legal because of a problem with the paperwork.
The VPR crew showered both Katie and Tom with love on their Instagram pages. Thankfully, no one is being asked to choose sides unlike when Lala Kent split with Randall Emmett.
I’m still sad to see this “OG” couple break up. Hopefully they will remain friends.
