Season 9 of Vanderpump Rules was all about James Kennedy and Raquel Leviss’ engagement. James popped the question in an elaborate Coachella-themed proposal, thanks to Tom Sandoval’s assistance, and Tom’s checkbook.
The Pump Rules finale was set at the couple’s extravagant engagement party weekend. Brock Davies wanted to secretly get married to Scheana Shay during the festivities, which caused a major argument between James and Brock during the party.
Raquel and James announced their split via an Instagram post in December 2021. The duo dropped the news on their VPR co-stars during the reunion, and it was right off the top. Awkward! In fact, Raquel returned the ring in front of everyone. Damn! Everyone was shocked.
James made sure to put it out there that Raquel’s family never accepted him. Raquel moved out of the apartment that she shared with James the day after the reunion taped.
In an Instagram post, James wrote, “But I do know one thing, I will continue my journey without alcohol, I will find my true self and the music never dies.”
Raquel spilled some juicy details about her split with James on Scheana’s podcast, Scheananigans with Scheana Shay. Raquel said that her family and James family “were not meshing well.” That was obvious.
Raquel continued, “So I just told him that my heart isn’t in it anymore. I don’t appreciate the way that you treat other people; it’s not how I treat other people,” she added. James is in serious need of some anger management classes.

During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen asked James, “When’s the last time you communicated with Raquel?”
James responded, “Yesterday. Me and Raquel were talking on the phone, still. Raquel and I still remain friends after the breakup and stuff,” the DJ added.
Raquel and James weren’t the only Pump Rules couple to call it quits. Lala Kent and her fiancé, Randall Emmett, split up after Randall allegedly cheated on Lala. Lala demanded that her cast mates choose between her and Randall.
We all know that Lala and James hooked up in the past, and a part of me thinks that they will again. Lala and James didn’t close the door on the idea.
Raquel wasn’t happy to hear that news, and commented, “I mean, good luck to them.” The shade is real, people! Then James was seen holding hands with a mystery woman. This drama is entering Lala and Randall petty territory.

Raquel had an “unengagement party” with some girlfriends. They watched the emotional VPR reunion and drank from penis straws. James hated penis straws because they were tacky. Raquel shared a photo to Instagram. The caption read, “Penis straws ftw #unengagementparty.” You go, girl!
When a fan posted that it was mean for Raquel to diss James, Raquel fired back. Her remarks were shared by @_surrules on Instagram. “After seeing how quickly James has moved on, I think I’m allowed the freedom to act on whatever my heart desires. I’m no longer taking into account other people’s concerns before my own,” Raquel wrote.
