More rose petals are falling in Bachelor Nation! First, Clare Crawley and Dale Moss called it quits at the end of last year. Surprising probably no one, Tayshia Adams and Zac Clark broke up around the same time. Then, Katie Thurston and Blake Moynes ended their engagement amidst Instagram drama, where Katie revealed she was dating John Hersey from her season of The Bachelorette. In spite of some recent good news from The Bachelor, it looks like another couple has pulled the plug on their relationship.
In an exclusive interview with People, Riley Christian and Maurissa Gunn, who met on Season 7 of Bachelor in Paradise, confirm that they have called off their engagement. Sigh. I really liked them together. People reminds us that the couple’s “engagement was historic as they became the first Black couple in Bachelor in Paradise history to [get engaged].
Riley and Maurissa were one of three couples to fall in love last season. Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt also got engaged, along with Kenny Braasch and Mari Pepin-Solis. Here’s hoping those couples are still going strong!
Apparently, “breakup rumors first circulated after the holidays.” One tell-tale sign of trouble was when Maurissa “removed all her Instagram posts featuring Christian, including one of the pair celebrating Christmas together.” Shortly thereafter, she “uploaded a photo that said ‘all that glitters is not gold’ and a video of her without her engagement ring.” That’s about as clear as you can get!

Prior to this, “on Jan. 6,” Riley posted a “cryptic” tweet that said, “Try not be stagnant when facing obstacles that are beyond your control. Just do what you can. That way, when things finally do fall into place, you’ll be able to hit the ground running.” Maurissa tweeted a much clearer message “in late December,” writing, “Sometimes you just have to see people for who they are, and not the potential they have.” Ouch.
I was really rooting for these two! It’s rare that I think people have a true connection on these shows, and I thought for sure Riley and Maurissa would make it. Oh well, you never can predict what’s going to happen after the final rose is handed out.
