Andy Cohen Southern Charm Reunion

Ryan Seacrest New Year’s Eve Broadcast Had Higher Ratings Than The One Andy Cohen Hosted

New Year’s Eve has come and gone but the (maybe friendly?) spat between Ryan Seacrest and Andy Cohen continues. In case you missed it, Andy spent his NYE special, CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live, allegedly boozing it up and talking smack. That smack talk included making fun of his competition, the Ryan hosted New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on ABC. Co-host and friend Anderson Cooper tried to reel in the Watch What Happens Live host but to no avail. And the next day, Andy admitted that he was “over-served”.

Now Ryan is returning the shade by gloating over ratings. As reported by Us Weekly, Ryan recently posted a screen shot to his Instagram stories showing off his NYE show ratings. Not only was New Year’s Rockin’ Eve the highest rated show of the night with 19.6 million viewers, but it was also their best showing in 4 years.

In a separate post on Instagram, Ryan celebrated, “Thank you to everyone who made this year’s #RockinEve another success! To all those who tuned in, to my amazing co-hosts @lizakoshy, @ciara, @theebillyporter, @roselyn_sanchez, as well as the incredible artists and the crew who made the 50th Anniversary so special. We couldn’t have done it without you!”

This had to be a sweet victory for Ryan, given what Andy said about him during his live special. Andy ranted at the time, “I’m sorry but if you’re watching ABC, you’re watching nothing. We were doused with confetti from fake Journey on ABC. If it’s not Steve Perry, it doesn’t count! You get it? It’s not Journey! It’s propaganda! It’s propaganda! It’s not Journey! It’s not Journey! No, that was not Journey. Steve Perry is Journey.” What a weird hill to die on.

Shortly thereafter, Andy issued a mea culpa on an episode of his Andy Cohen LiveSiriusXM show. Said Andy, “The only thing that I regret saying, the only thing is that I slammed the ABC broadcast and I really like Ryan Seacrest and he’s a great guy. And I really regret saying that, and I was just stupid and drunk and feeling it.”

As the dust settled, rumors were rampant that CNN fired Andy over the incident. But a spokesperson for CNN was quick to refute those claims. They said in a statement, “Andy said something he shouldn’t have on live TV. We’ve addressed it with him and look forward to having him back again next year.”

TELL US – ARE YOU SURPRISED THAT RYAN HAD HIGHER RATINGS? WHO DO YOU THINK IS A BETTER NYE HOST? DO YOU THINK ANDY SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED BY CNN?
