Well, here we are again. Candiace Dillard Bassett is getting called out for her problematic social media posts. This time, Mia Thornton is the one putting her on blast, and the whole situation is a yucky combination of messy and disappointing.
Everyone knows that Candiace is a disaster on social media. Even Andy Cohen said it himself! Last year, she got called out for sharing a slew of homophobic tweets. Most of the posts were from nearly a decade ago, but that doesn’t make them any less hurtful. So in August 2020, she issued a social media apology, vowing to be a better ally to the LGBTQIA+ community. In her Twitter apology, she wrote, “To my loyal fanbase, particularly the LGBTQIA+ viewers, thank you for unwavering support. I love you. I, alone, am responsible for my words and I deeply regret saying anything that could have hurt my friends, colleagues, family and fans.”
It seemed heartfelt, and even her husband spoke out to defend his wife’s character. But then yesterday, Candiace reshared a questionable tweet to her Instagram story. The original tweet was from September 2020, and the post said, “What made people gay before TV shows and movies?”
It’s not totally clear what she meant with that recent Instagram story or why a random tweet from September 2020 was on the top of her mind in October 2021. But based on her track record of blatant homophobia, Candiace should probably just keep any and all comments about the LGBTQIA+ community off her social media feed. Instagram stories automatically expire after 24 hours, but it’s worth noting that Candiace deleted this questionable post several hours before the 24-hour mark. Maybe Chris Bassett gave her a stern talking to similar to what he did after the salad tossing incident?
The newest Housewife of The Real Housewives of Potomac saw this as an opportunity to dunk on Candiace. Mia weighed in on Instagram, sharing a picture of her “Karma is a bitch” one-wick candle along with a compilation of Candiace’s homophobic posts. She left a caption on the post saying, “For the record, Yes these tweets are old but my stripper past is also 10 years old. Why would someone keep bringing it up, gotta ask them.” She continued, “If she wasn’t a homophobic she would NOT refer to a full bodied women as handsome. So again…Karma is a Bitch.”

Now, in the past, Mia has claimed that some of her dramatic social media moments were the result of an overzealous social media manager. Of course, it’s always easy to blame the team. But when fans in the comments asked if it was really her sounding off this time, Mia confirmed that it was actually her behind the keyboard.
In a separate Instagram post, Mia talked about Candiace’s unending comments about her large hands and feet. Commenters pointed out that these remarks may be coming from a transphobic place, and Mia mused the question, “Ladies…How would it make you feel if someone referred to you as Handsome?”
This isn’t the first time that Mia has sounded off on Candiace’s problematic and offensive behavior. A few weeks ago, the bravoshaderoom shared a screenshot to their Instagram page of Mia chatting with a fan about Candiace. The fan wrote, “Between her petulant child personality, body shaming, anti-homosexual and anti-trans comments, she needs to be fired by @bravotv @bravoandy.”
Mia agreed. “I won’t be seen in the same room with her for sure. It’s not cute and offensive to the masses,” she declared. “Wrong game. #lgbtq community I STAN.”

Well, we know that they were definitely in the same room for the season 6 reunion. But based on how Mia is slamming Candiace right now, it doesn’t seem like they resolved much.
TELL US – WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT MIA BRINGING UP CANDIACE’S OLD TWEETS? DO YOU THINK CANDIACE’S RECENT POST CONTRADICTS HER PREVIOUS APOLOGY? SHOULD BRAVO BE MORE STRICT WITH CANDIACE ABOUT HER SOCIAL MEDIA BEHAVIOR?
