Sumit Singh’s trepidations about marrying Jenny Slatten have dragged into the Third Season of 90 Day Fiance The Other Way. First it was all about the paperwork, the courts, and freeing Sumit from the clutches of his former in-laws. But that story line has run its course, and now Sumit is claiming that the emotional trauma he experienced in his arranged marriage is preventing him from marrying Jenny.
Despite this major issue, and the fact that Jenny’s residency rights in India depend on it, the couple is still together. And they recently participated in a round of Us Weekly’s “Couple Game.” First up, Sumit was asked to name his “biggest turnoff” about Jenny. Well, certainly 90 Day Fiance viewers might have their own answer to that. But after confirmation from Jenny, Sumit answered “complaints.”
Jenny guessed, “forgetting” was his turn major turn off, but clearly to 90 Day Fiance viewers if not to Jenny herself, it’s her lack of optimism. Though she admitted, “because I complain too much. I do. It’s true.”
Sumit explained, “I don’t know whether it’s an American thing or not, but I don’t think it’s an American thing. She has issues with everything.” In all fairness, moving to India couldn’t have been easy for her. Dealing with a conservative society that doesn’t accept their relationship must be a challenge. “I just complain,” Jenny said, “I can’t help it. I’m a complainer.”
The couple was asked to name the more romantic partner. Jenny acknowledged Sumit’s gestures towards her. “Sumit does everything for me,” she said, “and everything to me is romantic that he does.” Surprisingly, Sumit is a guru in the kitchen. He prepares food for Jenny, “from morning tea to late-night snacks.”

Sumit preparing food for Jenny is rather a big deal in India. It’s a patriarchal society wherein it’s a woman’s role to feed her family. Another reason for Sumit’s parents to dislike her for sure. But Sumit and Jenny have made their own rules. She gushed, “he’ll just go and cook me something. He’ll come in the room with it. I didn’t ask for it, I don’t expect it. He just does it. He just always is so caring and concerned about me.”
Maybe they are still enjoying a honeymoon phase, but will they ever make their relationship official? “I don’t have a very good experience with marriage in the past,” Sumit revealed. Referring to his past suicidal thoughts, Sumit said, “the fear is still there in my heart, in my mind, somewhere, but I know the person I’m living with is nice. I hope everything will go fine.”
Jenny’s frustration over Sumit’s delays are exacerbated by the limitations of her Indian tourist visa. She is only allowed to stay in India for six months at a time. Jenny needs marital status so she can apply for permanent residency card. “I’ll feel more confident. I’ll be his wife,” Jenny revealed, I’ll just feel better about the whole thing.”

“It’s the visa thing. Once we get married, I’ll be able to stay in India,” Jenny explained, “my visa will turn into a different visa, and I won’t have to do the every six months thing [leaving the country], which is hard. I’ll take care of that and then, plus, I’ll have rights to things.”
After seeking legal advice on a recent episode of 90 Day Fiance The Other Way, Jenny was told she could become a Hare Krishna devotee and apply for a missionary visa if Sumit doesn’t pull through. Hopefully, the couple find a solution.
