Bachelor In Paradise Star Maurissa Gunn Slams Fans Slut-Shaming Her For Hooking Up With Riley Christian

The entire premise of Bachelor In Paradise is basically the opposite of the typical Bachelor or Bachelorette season. All of those who weren’t lucky enough to get a final rose head to a private resort to date around and try to find love. They don’t have to vie for one person’s attention and are actually able to explore their chemistry with a variety of people. While date cards and roses are still in the picture, it’s a bit more laid-back way for people to try to fall in love, and not feel like total failures if they head home single.

But slut-shamers are going to slut-shame no matter what, even if they tune into a show ALL ABOUT nonchalant hookups each week. Maurissa Gunn, a contestant on the current BIP season, is dealing with just that. It’s 2021 people. You have to find other ways to criticize reality stars without making low-blows about their sex life. We’re better than that.

According to Page Six, Maurissa recently took to Instagram to defend herself after she hooked up with fellow contestant Riley Christian after their first date. Maurissa also received backlash for saying she “loves” having sex on the show. Notice: no one is shaming Riley for doing the same thing. Give women a break already.

Maurissa posted a video, appropriately wearing a shirt reading “Sex Positive” to slam viewers who criticize her for embracing her sexuality. “I don’t need to explain what I said, because I said it with conviction,” Maurissa wrote in the caption. She added that she may be better at handling the criticism than other women in similar positions, but it still doesn’t make it OK. FACTS.

And she has no regrets in her comments about liking sex. “It’s OK FOR WOMEN TO LIKE SEX! Sex is a 2 person act, so there shouldn’t be a double standard regarding which gender can openly like it, and which gender should be timid about their enjoyment,” Maurissa added. PREACH GIRL.

Viewers took to commenting on the show’s Instagram account referring to Maurissa as “desperate” for “[jumping] right into bed” with a Riley. Maurissa called out the “double standard,” as she should, mentioning it was disheartening to see a lot of the hate come from other women. “It’s already hard enough being a woman in today’s society, so we as women should do everything to lift each other up rather than bring each other down,” she added. And that’s on that. None of these haters have ever exposed their lives to reality TV. And just because someone does, that doesn’t mean they deserve to be attacked.

Riley also called out the “blatant double standard” on his own Instagram Story. “And just know when you put that type of stuff out there — yes you are entitled to your opinion, you’re entitled to judge people — just know that I see it and I’m judging you right back and so is everybody else,” he said. Thanks for tuning in, haters. What do you expect to see when you turn on dating shows? People holding hands and courting each other for weeks? You’d probably turn the TV off faster than your hateful comments turn off other people.
