Three cast members were recently fired on Real Housewives of Orange County, but only one is being classy about it. Elizabeth Lyn Vargas was let go after just one season, but she was mature about it. Then we have Braunwyn Windham-Burke and Kelly Dodd.
Kelly blamed Braunwyn for her lack of a RHOC paycheck. Kelly stated that Braunwyn “single-handedly ruined last season.” Kelly deserves some credit. She added that her former co-star is “an awful, insincere and fame-hungry phony.” Once again, pot meet kettle.
Kelly also shared some screenshots from a text conversation with Braunwyn to her Instagram. While Braunwyn posted a nice greeting, Kelly flipped out. “This was your fault. We’d still be on the show if you didn’t make things so dark and ugly and brought all that political ‘woke’ BS,” Kelly remarked.
Andy Cohen explained that Braunwyn was let go because “at this moment in time being on TV, wasn’t the healthiest spot for she and her family.” Braunwyn was upset that Andy didn’t call her personally.
Braunwyn had a couple of chaotic seasons on RHOC. In February of 2021, she celebrated one year of sobriety. She came out as a lesbian in December of 2020. She also started dating her girlfriend, Kris. Somehow this mom of seven was able to balance both her relationship with Kris and the one with her husband, tribal neckalce afficianado Sean Burke. After dating for five months, Kris and Braunwyn split up.
During an interview on the Reality Life With Kate Casey podcast, Braunwyn revealed when she found out that she was being fired. “So, I was at the beach with a friend. And the show runner said ‘Hey, are you free in a few minutes to talk?’ I said ‘yes,'” Braunwyn stated. “He called and just said ‘Hey, Bravo is not renewing your contract. They decided to go a different direction.’” Braunwyn was caught off guard. “I was just like ‘I can’t talk right now.’ I was in public [and] I was at the beach,” she explained.

“I got my stuff and I walked up to my car and I just sat down on the ground and cried,” Braunwyn shared. “I didn’t want to break down in public, but I just kind of sat down behind my car and I just cried because I was shocked.” Thankfully there wasn’t any paparazzi following Braunwyn that day.
“I was really excited. It’s Pride month. It’s June,” Braunwyn remarked. “I was really excited that we were finally gonna have a gay Housewife and I was really looking forward to that, you know? And filming that and looking forward to filming with the person that I was with that day,” she added. “I kind of wanted to show this next chapter of my life after how hard last year was.”
This interview was recorded before Braunwyn confirmed her relationship with Fernanda Rocha, but it is safe to assume that Braunwyn is referencing her. Fernanda’s wife, Tessa Rocha, filed for divorce on January 13, 2021. It is unclear if Braunwyn knew that Fernanda was married.
