Going into the most recent flop of a season of Real Housewives of Orange County, a lot of viewers expected to “side” with Braunwyn Windham-Burke. She supported disenfranchised groups and she seemed to be open-minded. During the premiere episode, she revealed that she is an alcoholic and started her journey of sobriety. She had a lot of people behind her, supporting her.
Then, the tide started to turn. She hired a professional photographer to take pictures of her at a Black Lives Matter protest, which doesn’t exactly scream “sincerity.” She admitted to hitting her husband Sean Burke… multiple times… in front of their children. After that, she came out as a lesbian, claiming that she has never been attracted to her husband, the father of her seven kids. She’s also been calling the paparazzi on herself. Basically, it just feels like a lot of attention-seeking and hypocrisy. No wonder, she’s had issues with every single one of her co-stars this season.
Elizabeth Lyn Vargas reflected on her first season as a Housewife during an appearance on Us Weekly‘s Getting Real With the Housewives podcast. And, of course, she was asked some questions about Braunwyn.
The podcast host, Christina Garibaldi, asked Elizabeth, “Kelly [Dodd] brought up this season that she feels like she is faking her sobriety. Do you think that she is faking her sobriety?” This was an accusation that Braunwyn denied, along with RHOC alum Tamra Judge. Emily Simpson and Gina Kirschenheiter stood up for Braunwyn at the reunion.

So what did Elizabeth think about Kelly’s theory on Braunwyn faking sobriety? She actually had a pretty cryptic answer. Elizabeth answered, “You know, I think that she’s sober from alcohol, but that’s it. Sobriety takes many different forms, darling.”
Is Elizabeth implying that Braunwyn is engaging in other activities? I mean, that’s not super shocking considering that Braunwyn admitted to offering her drug dealer’s contact information to Shannon Beador’s daughter Stella Beador when she was just 14 years old.
Elizabeth, whose sister is homeless amidst struggles with sobriety, added, “Believe me, I’ve been through this with my family. You need to be sober from everything. That’s called sobriety.”
