This past season of Real Housewives of Potomac should go down in the Housewives Hall Of Fame. The entire season surrounded the shocking fight between Candiace Dillard Bassett and Monique Samuels. But, that was enough for me. Everyone taking sides in the aftermath was as study in housewives alliances.
Since filming wrapped and the season came out, things have only gotten more heated. Monique was on an island of her own with her castmates. The poor girl was left to defend herself with a binder full of receipts at the reunion. Then she announced she wouldn’t be coming back for another season, leaving fans shocked.
Now Monique is sharing more of her feelings with Insider. She specifically talks about the social media dragging of host Andy Cohen for not being neutral on housewives fights.
Monique started,”I was definitely held to a different standard. At some points, I was being looked to show the emotion that they wanted me to show versus what I was giving to them, which was true for me.” She continued, “I believe that his responsibility should be to get down to the bottom of whatever questions may have been unanswered during the season.”

Monique said, “It’s his responsibility to treat everyone equally. If you’re going to hold one person accountable, everyone else needs to be held accountable as well.”
She also believes that if RHOP had a more diverse production staff, she wouldn’t have gotten so much criticism. It does seem to most fans that Monique and Candiace’s fight got way more negative scrutiny. Way more than franchise fights that featured all white cast members. Real Housewives of New Jersey and Real Housewives of Orange County come to mind.

Monique added, “You need to have that representation behind the scenes because not everybody understands other cultures that are outside [of] themselves. If they did that then you wouldn’t get so much heat once it airs. It becomes obvious that the diversity is lacking in that area.” I have to agree with Monique on this one.
Whether you were on her side or not, I don’t think the treatment of her was truly fair. It’s a shame it got to the point of her not coming back but it does sound like for now, it’s for the best.
