Braunwyn Windham-Burke has been on quite the journey. I know we have said it over and over but it’s true. Honestly, it’s hard keeping up with Braunwyn news these days. In the course of this season of Real Housewives of Orange County, she’s given us a lot. She’s admitted to being an alcoholic, slapping her husband, Sean Burke and now coming out as a lesbian. I’ll say it again – that was all in one season. Whew.
Despite her living her truth, not everyone is feeling it. She’s been accused of being thirsty for attention multiple times. Some even think she’s using her alcoholism as a storyline. For the record, I don’t support that theory. I think Braunwyn needed help and didn’t want to quit the show so she put it all out there. Which for others struggling with abuse must be a big moment of relatability. And there is nothing wrong with that.
But living so many truths at once can come across as a little….try hard. I will be the first to admit that I have been a staunch Braunwyn supporter through all this. Especially given the circumstances and how open she seemingly is. But even I can get tired and tired I am.
My tipping point is a recent interview Braunwyn did with Vulture where she claims TMZ had pics of her and girlfriend, Kris. According to Braunwyn, that played into the timing of her GLAAD interview, where she came out midseason.

Said Braunwyn of the timing, “TMZ had some photos of me and my girlfriend, and they have a policy of not outing people. So they came to Bravo PR, and they said, ‘We have these photos, but we’re not gonna run them.'” Braunwyn continued, “And [Bravo PR] came to me and said, ‘Okay, this is out there; it’s gonna get out there.’ Because I wasn’t hiding it. Kris came out of the closet 12 years ago; I was not gonna push her back in. How can we do this the best way? And I really wanted to find a venue that was respectful and that would really tell the story.”
So let’s get this right – Braunwyn believes that TMZ was following her around with her girlfriend and took pics of them. Of course there are some in demand housewives out there but Braunwyn? Meh. I’m not buying it.

She continued about the interview, “Was it hard for me to say it the first time? Yes. If you look at the GLAAD interview, you can see me. I’m shaking. I’m shaking through that whole video. But now that I’ve gotten to the other side of it, I’m glowing and lighter and happy.”
It is hard to besmirch someone’s happiness when they have come to such an enlightened place. Especially at her age. That’s a long time to live without being authentic. But like the rest of you who have been telling me this all along, I think Braunwyn might be reaching a little bit now that she’s got a season of housewives under her belt. We get it, you are on your journey. That doesn’t mean everyone is going to go along for the ride. And maybe after this one, I need to get off.
