Austen Kroll has not had much luck in the romance department. Perhaps it’s because he still clings to the teet of a craft IPA instead of embracing adulthood. On this season of Southern Charm, Austen reignited the flames of desperation love with Madison LeCroy. But it was probably less about their shared interests and more about the production crew following them around. Hey, if Madison wanted to take back a guy who was literally busted on television having an equally busted threesome, have at it honey.
Even after Madison and Austen got back together for the 95th time, it was a rocky road. Austen appeared unable to accept basic concepts like Madison having relationships with men prior to him. While Southern Charm explores sensitive topics like white privilege and dealing with a pandemic, Austen continued to try and make his beer and his bond with Madison stick. Unfortunately, neither of those things happened. Now Austen reflects on his tumultuous time with Mads and how it compares to his other ex, Chelsea Meissner.
Being on reality television is a great way to promote your brand. It’s also handy for a hefty paycheck if you have no discernable life skills. But the “reality” side of reality television is tricky. For some people it helps, and for others it shines a bright light on how NOT to be. There’s nothing inherently evil about Austen, but he hasn’t exactly done himself many favors by being on Southern Charm. From what we know, Peter Pan Syndrome is a thing and Austen has questionable views on what being faithful means.
This is why it came as a shock to absolutely no one, that Madison and Austen didn’t go all the way. Literally no human being with a functioning brain cell left in their head thought this duo would work out. But, let’s go ahead and talk about it anyway because Austen had some free time. According to Bravo’s The Daily Dish, he made an appearance on Watch What Happens Live and a fan asked Austen if he would ever consider getting back with Chelsea now that Madison is in his rearview.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s probably better Austen was asked this question and not Chelsea. She might have required medical attention at the mere thought of rekindling a romance with Austen, the beer guy. That said, Austen replied, “Gosh, I mean, after going through what I went through with Madison, to look at someone like Chelsea would be like, ‘Oh my god, you are an angel sent from frickin’ Heaven,'” he said. You know what’s not frickin’ Heaven? Walking into your boyfriend’s house and seeing him with two other chicks who are scantily clad but deciding to believe NOTHING HAPPENED.
Austen continued, “But I think that, honestly, that Chelsea and I have moved into the friend realm. We just realized that she and I are so, so, so different.” Yes, Chelsea likes men who have a job. Chelsea likes men who have ambition. Chelsea likes men whose Fitbit records more than 10 steps a day. Also, Chelsea is no longer on Southern Charm because she decided drinking and waiting for Kathryn Dennis to create a distressing rumor about her life wasn’t her bag.

Austen may stay unlucky in love and live with Craig Conover forever. Or maybe his beer will take off and be picked up nationwide by grocery stores and bars. Perhaps Austen will burn bridges and have to rely on his parents to fund his lifestyle until he reaches the ripe old age of 45 and decides to “write a book”. On the bright side, Austen found his wheelhouse because getting paid to imbibe alcohol and talk about himself is what he’s good at. Hopefully his television career will fair better than his love life.
