It seems like Real Housewives of Potomac has one ball this season. But it’s a big ball. A controversial ball. And the ball just keeps on bouncing. The physical altercation between Monique Samuels and Candiace Dillard was a big deal. Was the catalyst Candiace’s mouth and her hair ultimately paid the price? No one will argue assault is ever “necessary” but can it be “provoked”?
Now that fans are finally seeing the fight for themselves, sides have been taken. Many people think Candiace asked for it. Others feel Monique should have kept her hands in check. One universal question was why Monique didn’t reach out to Candiace to apologize, which seems appropriate after her UFC debut. Now we learn it wasn’t Monique’s decision not to offer amends, because a certain email changed everything.
There will be no remains of this dead horse once we are done with it. Every minute detail of Monique and Candiace’s fight will be examined and then we will have… THE REUNION. The brawl does have many layers, however, and more are being uncovered each week. After the altercation took place, Karen Huger held a powwow at her house. Gizelle Bryant, doing her AliExpress version of Vanessa Williams best, claims she won’t film with Monique going forward. Robyn Dixon has accused Monique of lying about details of the blowup, but she is certainly not lying about her taxes.
Monique sought counseling from her pastor, who probably does not have multiple paternity suits going, and when the meeting concluded she received a not-so-unexpected email. According to Monique, she wasn’t being a hardass by not contacting Candiace. Instead, she was listening to the advice from her attorney.

Candiace lawyered up and sent financial legal intentions to Monique. On Twitter, Monique shared the communication. Did Candiace have an ulterior motive? Monique wrote, “After I had the meeting with my pastor, I received this email. My attorney advised that I only speak to Candice with him present. We asked several times for a mediation sit down and she and her attorney REFUSED. She didn’t want to hear an apology! She wanted money.”
Did Mother Dorothy’s purse receive papers too? If your mouth keeps writing checks that your wig can’t cash, when do you close your mouth? Because of Candiace’s “expressive nature”, the fight was labeled a “mutual altercation”. Monique added, “When my attorney said ‘no we’re not paying her anything because this was not an “attack” or an “assault” but a “mutually consented” altercation’ (a warning to back up was given followed by her egging on by saying “what you gon do? You gon drag me?”), her attorney’s response was…”

In separate tweet, Monique offered the answer. “‘Well we’re going to sue Monique for MILLIONS and Bravo will capture it all!’ Then they filed the complaint. Then I countered. Then the state threw both charges out. The End.” Please note there are no receipts for the “sue Monique for MILLIONS” quote, but it certainly isn’t outside the realm of possibilities.
Monique has admitted to being remorseful about her actions. Candiace maintains she has no fault in what lead to the smackdown. Candiace’s mother, Ashley Darby, husband Chris Bassett, and anyone else who has had words with Candiace or her butter knives might throw side-eyes at this statement. So the real question is, was Candiace motivated by money or justice? Did she want Monique to pay for her behavior or PAY for her behavior? This is yet another layer to the Fight of the Century. It appears we are a long way from the 12th round.
