Lisa Rinna has always brought the drama on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. For that, we appreciate her. But the drama she brings cross lines and make her look like some voice of reason. Whether it was the Yolanda Hadid has Munchausen syndrome story, the Kim Richards is close to death story, or this season’s Denise Richards pile on– Rinna dishes it out. But does she ever really take it?
She might talk about “owning it”, but that usually comes with some Emmy caliber crying-for-the-cameras. Point being, when someone questions Rinna’s motives, behavior, opinions, life, anything to do with her – she cannot handle it. Exhibit A is from the most recent episode of RHOBH. Garcelle Beauvais questioned if Rinna’s underwear dances on social media may have impacted Amelia Gray Hamlin’s body image. Rinna said no thoughtfully enough, and the women moved on. Yet months after this happened in rrealtime Garcelle’s getting the response Rinna has been waiting to give.
Rinna posted a video to Instagram of Amelia Gray dancing with a tambourine to Edge of Seventeen. In the caption, she wrote, “I’d say she’s #Thriving #MotherOfTheYear.” Amelia Gray then took aim at Garcelle in a repost from Comments by Bravo: “My question is why would your dancing videos make me ‘feel bad’???? Who was she trying to body shame?? Am I fat? Why would that make me sad????? Body shaming is real. And not Okay.” Very true.
Amelia concluded with, “You can call my mom too skinny or me too skinny but if we called you too big???? Hunny it’s the same thing.” Mmmkay. I’m not sure about those last remarks. Is she calling Garcelle “too big?” If so, wrong. Or is she saying body-shaming is bad period – whether “too big” or “too thin”? If so, agreed. People shouldn’t make judgments about other people’s bodies. However, being thin has unfortunately been a celebrated ideal. So “too thin” and “too big” have different connotations.

Amelia then went on her Instagram story to talk more and it was shared by Queens of Bravo today. Amelia directly addresses Garcelle again, and tells her to “take this as a learning opportunity” and to “do your research” on “eating disorders” before you make comments on someone’s body. She also clarified that she thought Garcelle’s comments were making it seem like she was “a lot larger than [her] mom.”

Body shaming is not okay. Neither is Rinna using her daughter to tell Garcelle off. Rinna will continually dish it out, but never sit back and think about any criticisms thrown her way. How she gets away with being the one to throw accusations and never get any in return is beyond me. Why aren’t we talking about the husband? Isn’t is weird that we JUST finally heard her admit Harry Hamlin has a son with Bond girl and octogenarian Ursula Andress?
