Former Southern Charm Star Thomas Ravenel Apologizes To Nanny As Part Of Sexual Assault Settlement

Let’s hope this about does it regarding anything court cases involving Thomas Ravenel. Since his departure from Southern Charm, Thomas has been keeping it busy with his lawyers. On one side he had the exhausting, long term custody battle with former flame, Kathryn Dennis. But on the other side, he had a nasty little sexual assault charge.

After Thomas was arrested on allegations of rape, he waited many months for the case to go to trial. The person who alleged the crime against Thomas was the nanny of the children he shares with Kathryn. Recently Thomas plead guilty to the charges against him. He received a 30-day sentence that was suspended to a $500 fine. He also had to pay the victim’s legal fees and make a charitable donation to an organization specializing in surviving sexual assault. But that wasn’t all he had to do. New details about the settlement have been released, and some things might surprise you.

In September, Thomas pled guilty to third-degree assault and battery during his trial. According to the plea documents obtained by People, after previously denying all allegations, Thomas admitted to making an “unwelcome advance” on Nanny Dawn. In a new affidavit, Thomas stated he was intoxicated after a night out and tried to kiss her. After Dawn said NO, Thomas said she “helped me upstairs” to his room. He said she offered him a back rub before leaving.

In Dawn’s initial affidavit, she claimed in 2015 Thomas tried to kiss her in his kitchen. After denying his advances, she said he “corralled” her into his bedroom. She then said he dropped his pants and exposed himself. Dawn stated Thomas blocked the door and “proceeded to rip [her] clothes off”. Dawn maintains she did escape the situation, but not before Thomas sexually assaulted her.

Thomas’ apology was as follows, “While I reiterate that I have never intentionally sexually assaulted anyone, I also acknowledge that by making an unwelcome advance to Dawn in my home, while she was babysitting my daughter, I behaved improperly and caused her immediate and lasting emotional distress. I unqualifiedly apologize for having done so.”

But Dawn might see things a bit different now. The current plea deal said that Dawn’s view of the encounter has “shifted over time.” Her statement read, “I have read and understand his [Thomas’] account of what happened that night and realize his recollection differs from mine.” Dawn also said, “While his memory differs in critical ways from my own regarding the incident, I accept Thomas’ apology for his unwarranted physical contact that evening and I believe him when he says he never intended to sexually assault me.”

Thomas had previously accused Kathryn of encouraging Dawn to come forward after the assault. The new agreement stated Kathryn was among those who urged Dawn to file a case against Thomas. It said,”In the Spring of 2018, when stories began emerging in the press about Thomas Ravenel and other women — and after Kathryn Dennis and friends reached out to me, encouraging me to come forward — I ultimately recognized the incident was sexual assault,” Dawn wrote. At this time, Kathryn has not responded to the claim. However, she has previously denied encouraging Dawn to bring charges against Thomas.

Dawn still has a civil case against Bravo, the parent companies, and Haymaker. She accuses them of “negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, defamation and civil conspiracy”. Thomas used to be named in that suit. However, he was removed in the new deal. Thomas also has an active suit against Bravo, et al to forbid the show from airing footage of him, his children, or any scenes Kathryn is speaking about the custody battle. Also worth noting in the plea agreement, any money Thomas makes in this — or any future suits against Bravo, NBC Universal, Comcast, and Haymaker — will now go to Dawn. So there you have it, that’s the end. Hopefully.
