Thomas Ravenel Deletes Twitter Account After Photo Backlash

Let’s begin with something positive. The most recent appearance of Thomas Ravenel in our news feed does not have anything to do with court! Earlier this month, Thomas’ children lost their maternal grandmother. Kathryn Dennis mother Allison, passed away after battling cancer. According to Thomas, Allison played a huge role in his kids’ lives, as she lived with Kathryn during her treatment. Thomas had even previously accused Kathryn’s mom of “doing all of the work” with Kensie and Saint, while in the care of their mother. Days before her death, Allison went to court to refute these allegations, and commend her daughter’s parenting skills.

Allison’s struggle ended on August 7. Now, this subject matter involves your opinion on the appropriate measures of etiquette following a family death. The former Southern Charm star found himself the recipient of many unpleasant reactions after posting a photo to social media. It might be worth noting, prior to this incident, Thomas had not been active on Twitter since June 1. While Thomas is not standing in front of a judge for once, this trial is being held in the court of public opinion.

You’re probably familiar with the ‘ole “Tweet and Delete” process. It seems to be a favorite among celebrities and people not confident with selfies. Thomas is an expert in the social media practice of Tweet and Delete. Once again, he is showing his proficiency with his latest post.  According to Page Six, “The former Southern Charm star, 57, shut down his Twitter account shortly after he posted a photo of his children, Kensie and Saint, with his mother. He shares the kids with [Kathryn] Dennis, 26, who lost her mother last week.”

Look, it is no crime to share a photo of a grandmother with your children. No one is disputing that fact. What people have issue with is the timing of his post. Some felt it was a possible “dig” at Kathryn, or at best, too soon after Allison’s death. “Avid fans quickly criticized [Thomas] Ravenel’s posting as untimely and seemingly cruel — especially since he hadn’t used the social media platform since June.”

I’m not one to make excuses for Thomas, but let’s take a look at the facts. This is not a young man. Thomas might not have even been aware of his poor timing. Thomas also has a lot on his plate. Between deposing everyone except Shep Rose’s dog and Michael the Butler, Thomas must be drowning in paperwork. It is possible he didn’t even know of Allison’s death before the photo went live. Or, maybe Thomas wanted to reassure the general public his children have one remaining grandmother…

On the other side of the coin, this is the Beautiful South. Down here we have manners and protocol, and this incident certainly presented as a social no-no. But I’m not certain Thomas follows the Miss Manners Guide To When Your Ex’s Mom Dies. All he did was share a photo of his mama with his babies, shortly after the grandmother they lived with passed away.

Thomas could very well say he was unaware of Allison’s death, but news like that tends to spread fast. He couldn’t have been in the dark for too long. Ultimately, Thomas scrubbed his Twitter and hasn’t returned since. Funny thing is, after all of the embarrassing incidents surrounding Thomas’ life, this is what makes him delete a social media account?

So what do you think? Innocent mistake or cruel dig at the mother of his children? Thomas never stays off social media for long, so perhaps he will address it in the near future. Stay tuned, I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of Mr. Ravenel.
