Heidi Montag & Audrina Patridge Are Happy Lauren Conrad Isn’t On The Hills: New Beginnings

Back in the day, The Hills was Lauren Conrad’s show. This makes sense since it was her spin-off from the popular MTV show Laguna Beach. She was the narrator. It was Lauren’s world and everyone else was just living in it.

When Lauren cut ties with bestie Heidi Montag because she didn’t like Heidi’s now-husband Spencer Pratt, most of the cast followed suit. After all, they wanted to stay on The Hills, right?  Soon, the show will be back for a reboot because it’s 2019 and no one makes original content anymore called The Hills: New Beginnings. A lot of the show’s original stars will be back, but not Lauren. She’s too busy living her best life and racking in the cash with her lifestyle brand. She has zero interest in returning to the show that propelled her into reality TV stardom and it’s not as if she needs a paycheck unlike the rest of them.

Considering that Heidi and Spencer (but mostly Spencer) were the “villains” on the original show, it has to feel good knowing that Lauren will not be a part of this one to skew the narrative. On a recent Good Morning America episode, Heidi admitted, “I actually was kind of excited Lauren wasn’t on it because I felt like it was more freeing and fair, like, for me.”

That makes perfect sense. Lauren narrated the show. Literally speaking, everything was shown from her point of view. If she didn’t want Heidi around, Heidi wasn’t around. Most of the other cast members didn’t film with Heidi while she feuded with Lauren. This was until Lauren left in the middle of Season 5. Her Laguna Beach costar Kristin Cavallari emerged to take that narrator role, which had to sting to the OG cast members who were still on the show like Heidi and Audrina Patridge.

This time around, both Kristin and Lauren will be absent from the drama. So, who’s going to be the new queen bee? As Natasha Bedingfield once sang, “the rest is still unwritten.” In reality, we should know the answer to that question when the show premieres on June 24.

One thing is for sure though, the cast members are happy that Lauren will not be stealing their limelight. During that same Good Morning America interview, Audrina said Lauren “was always the one – she’s the leader, the one that would tell you what to do, what not to do.” Well, they all listened to her. They had no problem living in Lauren’s world when The Hills was the most popular reality show.

Audrina continued, “So now it’s kinda like we all get … you kinda get to make your own choices and be your own self.” How’s that going to go? After many cast members admitted that The Hills became pretty fake toward the end of its original run, the premise of the reboot is a bit unclear. Is it another “fake” show? Is it a true reality show? Is there a narrator? Where will they hang out now that Les Deux closed down?

So many unanswered questions. Well, except for “Do you miss Lauren?” That’s a very obvious “no,” at least from Heidi and Audrina.
