Kate Chastain Upset Captain Lee Questioned Her After Caroline Bedol Quit; Shades Rhylee Gerber

That last episode of Below Deck was jam-packed full of drama. Captain Lee Rosbach finally fired Chandler Brooks. Caroline Bedol gave Kate Chastain her “two days notice,” as if that’s an actual concept. Then, Kate and Josiah Carter played loud music to disrupt Caroline when she was resting instead of packing up her belongings. Caroline shared her version of the story with Captain Lee. Then, he questioned Kate based on Caroline’s words.

Ashton Pienaar had sex with a random in a car, which may or may not be related to Rhylee Gerber going off on the rest of the cast. There is just so much to unpack from that one episode. Thankfully, Kate and Josiah were on Watch What Happens Live last night. Unfortunately, they still didn’t have enough time to touch on all the important moments from the episode.

Andy Cohen pointed out that Caroline resembles Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Ellie Kemper. Kate did not miss a beat. After that observation, she admitted, “I do love that show.” She added, “I wish that Caroline had been more unbreakable. She was just always like broken.”

Speaking of those medical afflictions, a caller asked, “Did either of you think Caroline exaggerated her injuries?” Kate answered, “Her foot was swollen, but the other injuries were exaggerated.” Josiah nodded in agreement.

Andy polled the audience to pick sides between Caroline or Kate and Josiah. 86% of the audience sided with Kate and Josiah. No one is shocked by that result.

Even so, Andy had to ask, “Putting the speaker in front of the room, why?” Did Kate and Josiah go too far with the music? Or was it justified given the situation?

Kate said, “I mean, she could have opened the door and pressed pause. I think yelling at her or anything else would have been aggressive. She basically quit in a way that was really humiliating for us when we had been pulling her weight all season.”

Andy told Josiah, “You had to be surprised when you went into the room and she said ‘I’m out.'” Josiah joked, “I mean, ‘two days notice’ is not a thing anyway.” I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who felt that way. I wasn’t sure if “two days notice” was some yachting-specific employment terminology.

Josiah admitted, “We had to pick up the slack for her and I was just so annoyed.” So were the viewers.

After Caroline quit and left, Captain Lee questioned Kate. Kate confessed, “I was kind of frustrated and disappointed. My feelings were hurt. Caroline was on a plane back to America. We have a charter coming. He’s questioning me. What are you going to do? Call her back and have her be Chief Stew? I was shocked.”

Andy asked, “You were mad?” Kate declared, “I was disappointed. My feelings were hurt.” Fair enough.

At another point in the episode, a caller came through with an interesting question: “Do you think Rhylee was aggressive to the group because Ashton was hooking up with another girl?”

Kate responded with the shadiest answer possible: “I think that Rhylee is a wonderful fishing guide in Alaska and she’s probably the most popular girl in Alaska. You know?” Both Andy and Josiah couldn’t help laughing at that remark.

Kate concluded, “So, we’re not in Alaska anymore, Rhylee. It was an adjustment.”

Of course, there can’t be a discussion about this season without mentioning Chandler. Andy asked, “Do you believe that Chandler deserved to be fired?” Kate declared, “Yes, for the safety of everyone.” Once again, Josiah agreed and so did the viewers with 97% voting yes in Andy’s poll.
