This season of Real Housewives of Orange County is just starting to heat up. The new cast members are finally integrating with the veteran ladies, and by “integrating” I mean “screaming at in the middle of an event.” Emily Simpson earned her stripes as a Real Housewife of Orange County when she stepped into the (metaphorical) ring with Kelly Dodd during the last episode.
Kelly may be the newest veteran Housewife, but going toe to toe with Kelly is far from easy. No one wants to be on the receiving end of a Kelly Dodd tirade, let alone a brand new Housewife. During the last episode of the show, Kelly confronted Steve Lodge about comments he made against her on social media and in interviews. Then, Emily’s husband Shane Simpson stepped in, Kelly called him a “little bitch,” and then Emily threatened to “kill” Kelly. And of course, we were all left with a cliffhanger ending going into tonight’s episode.
Emily reflected on the drama in a Bravo blog post. She began, “First off, let me say that I am not proud of the words I used that night at Tamra’s [Judge] party. I have never in my life ever said such a thing, and I hope to never say anything like that again. But I also have never felt such a FIERCE mix of emotion: confusion, hurt, love, protectiveness, all mixed into one.” If this was the fiercest mix of emotion that Emily has ever experienced, then it will be interesting to see how she handles the rest of the season. Sure, that conflict with Kelly was explosive, but it was tame as far as Kelly conflicts go.
Emily explained, “My confusion arose from the fact that I honestly couldn’t understand who Kelly was talking about. I was assuming she was referring to Steve when she was repeatedly berating someone and calling them a ‘little bitch.'”
Emily wrote, “I knew that she had approached the table to speak to Steve because she was angry with him about something he had said about her on social media. You can see the confusion on my face. This is a PIVOTAL moment. This is the moment where I realize Kelly is talking about Shane, and Kelly realizes he is my husband. This is the moment where Kelly had the choice to act like a mature adult, pull me to the side, and let me know she was annoyed by something Shane had said. This would have been the classy thing to do. Instead, she became vulgar.” Sure, it would have been the classy thing to do, but this made for a much more entertaining episode. Well, it was entertaining for almost everyone other than Emily and Shane.
Emily admitted, “Watching that scene over again literally brought tears to my eyes because her words were so disgusting and brutal. It was difficult to watch my husband be berated and verbally attacked.” I have bad news Emily. That was really nothing. Kelly barely went in on him. Kelly has a lot more in her than calling someone a “little bitch.”
Emily insisted, “I knew that he went to the party with the intention of being peaceful and just meeting with my new friends. He told me that he was just going to hang out in the background and talk with the other guests. He was minding his own business and not causing any drama.” He jumped into a conversation that he was not a part of? How was that “minding his own business”?
Emily continued with her version of events: “Kelly approached their table and instigated an argument with Steve. Steve had no interest in entertaining her, and he snubbed her and walked away, leaving Shane behind. I believe Kelly was irate and she turned her misplaced anger toward Shane. I wish Shane would have walked away with Steve, but honestly, even if he did that, she probably would have attacked him and verbally abused him for walking away. It was a lose/lose situation for Shane regardless. He was caught in the crossfire.” Why would Kelly attack Shane for walking away instead of jumping into a discussion which had nothing to do with him?
Emily maintained, “I don’t think anything Shane said to Kelly that night was rude or disrespectful. He honestly had no idea what Steve had said about Kelly on social media, nor does he have a clue what Page 6 is. He never raised his voice, he never called her any names. He tried repeatedly to back out of the conversation.” When did he try to back out of the conversation? When he inserted himself into it or when he continued arguing with Kelly?
Tamra Judge Thinks Emily Simpson’s Husband Shane Was Out Of Line In Argument With Kelly Dodd
Emily continued, “He made a comment about her being drunk because he assumed (justifiably so) that she must have been drinking to act out in such a harsh manner. It’s obvious he didn’t want to cause any drama.” Sure.
Emily concluded, “Lastly, yes I am an attorney. And as I stated previously, I am not proud of my choice of words (although apparently if I owned a gym, it’s perfectly acceptable language to use i.e. Ireland). But BEFORE I am an attorney, I am a WIFE, and I am a MOTHER. When you come after my husband, you are attacking the very world that I love and protect. You are attacking my marriage, which is sacred to me, and you are attacking our five children who love their father and think the world of him. You are attacking everything in my life that means something to me, and I will not sit back and take it. I will defend my man, my marriage and my children ALWAYS.” Did Kelly attack Shane? Or did she just respond when Shane tried to take part in her conversation with Steve?
She signed off with “And to those of my fellow Housewives who need something to talk about…you’re welcome.” Fair enough. This explosion with Emily, Kelly, Shane, and a little bit of Steve thrown in was the most interesting thing that has happened this season. There was not much else to talk about before this all went down. Hopefully that changes though.
