Giuliana Rancic is responding to criticism about her weight. After the Fashion Police star appeared on the Golden Globes red carpet looking shockingly thin, Giuliana says the attention to her body size has “gotten out of hand” and she feels compelled to speak-out to dispel rumors that she has an eating disorder.
“I eat more than any of my friends,” Giuliana insists. “I eat a very robust, healthy, balanced diet and dessert almost every night. I’m not hiding from anything.”
When the barrage of comments about her weight refused to diminish, Giuliana felt she had to defend herself! “I never want my weight to distract people from what I do. But it is becoming a distraction, [whenever] I wear something sleeveless, show my arms, my back.”

Denying that she has an eating disorder, Giuliana admits accusations that she does are hurtful. Especially since the change in her metabolism can be credited to a cancer-suppression medication she has been prescribed since 2012 after defeating breast cancer. “I started noticing that I was eating a lot, but not gaining weight at all. I was concerned,” Giuliana recounts, but doctors assured her it was a side-effect of the medication and she is healthy.
Giuliana describes the constant insulting commentary on her appearance as upsetting.”It’s really hurtful,” acknowledges the reality star. “I’m sorry that some people think I’m disgustingly skinny, as they put it, but there’s nothing I can do. I’m lucky that I even have the type of cancer that reacts to the medicine.”
For Giuliana, who has always had a naturally thin frame, she says criticisms are especially poignant because of insecurities about her size that she’s unable change.”I am really thin. I want to look fit and beautiful and sexy, and I can’t,” she shares. “I look in the mirror and it’s hard for me.”
Recounting how a major magazine decided against featuring her on the cover because she was “too skinny” Giuliana confesses to People that the news was “really hurtful. “I thought, ‘Wow, I’m on cancer medication. I’m doing the best that I can.’ “
However Giuliana refuses to “be to be broken” by the negativity – or the other bad news she and husband Bill Rancic have recently received.
She and Bill learned on New Year’s Eve that their surrogate, who was pregnant with their third and last remaining embryo had suffered a miscarriage. Giuliana describes the “painful” feeling of lost hope as “the toughest blow.” The E! hostess consents, “It was a really hard time.”
After welcoming son Duke, now 2 1/2, with a surrogate in 2012, Giuliana and Bill had three remaining embryos. Unfortunately in 2014 their surrogate, implanted then with two embryos, suffered a miscarriage. “We were so optimistic with this last embryo. We thought, ‘This is definitely going to work. This is our last shot,’ ” Giuliana expressed to People. Instead the couple now has to turn to other options to pursue their dream of expanding their family.
They are now considering adoption. “We’re open to everything,” enthuses Giuliana. “I think adoption is a beautiful gift you’re giving each other. And it’s funny, I’m even more open to [adoption] than I was before. Because I think to myself, ‘I love Duke so much, if I couldn’t take care of him, I hope there would be someone else who would love him.’ ”
Giuliana has written a memoir about her struggles with cancer and infertility entitled Going Off Script, which hits stores on April 7.
